Obviously this year primarily falls on the failures of a first year head coach that wasn’t ready for the job. But an equal part of that is that Kevin Barbay was one of the worst coordinator hires in State history.

 

I was optimistic about him before the year but the results speak for themselves. State averaged 12.6 points per game in SEC play this year, and that’s including a game where they scored 30 at South Carolina. That is disgusting. State’s defense was bad most of the year too, but this offense was an abomination. And it was this bad with a perfectly reasonable amount of skill talent. I know you had the Rogers injury but this thing NEVER at any point looked right.

You have to get your playmakers the ball, and State failed to do that this year.

The last 12 months for State have just been brutal, man. You walk away from Oxford one year ago with the Egg and an 8-4 record that people are pleased with, and you’re excited about what was coming back in 2023. And then Leach passed away and the program just hasn’t recovered from it yet, and frankly made some really poor decisions in the process of trying to recover.

Yes you are right. The bowl win was good. The AZ win was good but beyond that the has been a devastating year for State football. 
Tonight each team had three scoring opportunities. Ole Miss scored all three times and State scored once. 
What happened to Walley? One of our best players and he was hardly on the field at all this year. Marks is a good player but unfortunately he has been injury prone most of his career. 
 

The offensive coordinator hire was definitely a bad hire though at the time it seemed good. 
Defense was very inconsistent but played much better in the last two games.

Walley got injured and just never got it all back together.

Not a big surprise but Will Rogers is in the transfer portal. Grateful for all he did for State but I think all parties were ready to move on.

He has one year left and I wish him all the best.

The change in offense neutered him and then the injury was very unfortunate. Last night he played with great effort but you could tell he was not 100%. 
 

Something not mentioned but that I think is worth a mention is that the State fan base last night was awesome and crowd was electric all the way until the end. It could have been easy for people to throw in the towel but these last two games showed up and were loud. 
 

Now on to a fresh start with a new coach and some much needed stability in the program.

Wow. I am really glad for Dillon Johnson. It was a shame in the way his time at State ended last year.
28 carries, 152 yards tonight. 
He was the MAN on that field. 
If they win the NC , it will be fine with me!!!

Arnett is literally a 2020s version of Joe Lee Dunn. Like it’s bizarre that they run basically the same defense and his career path has A TON of parallels to JLD.
