I’ve seen plenty of it lionpack so I def understand but you also gotta see this is a once in a million years kind of thing for MAIS so it’s going to be talked about. You’re going to have your bandwagon guys and your haters. I will say I despise GCS but am a huge Deandre Smith fan. Have been for years. The kid can ball is now a 4 year starter and would’ve done the same at Greenwood because he already was. A lot of the hype towards the team started out because of him. Again he would’ve done same at Greenwood. I actually feel sorry for the Greenwood community because they’re a great fan base and IMO they were gonna get over the hump last year and win their first championship and follow it up with another this year.

I'll be the first to admit the team is loaded. I agree with you that the real loser in this is Greenwood High. Maybe instead of saying I hope Oak Grove buries GC I should have said that I cannot wait to stop hearing about how great they are. They are exceptionally athletic for an MAIS team no matter how they got that way.

My gripe is with the people elevating them to one of the greatest teams/programs to play in MS. They are the best team someones money could buy.

I bet if Madison Central and Germantown closed and all of their kids went to either MRA or JA, that would hypothetically be the best team. Madison all star team anyone?

Lionpack first off my bad I didn’t mean to single you out with my examples. There’s plenty more I’ve read I could’ve mentioned. I figured might as well cause a debate since above they mentioned no one was talking about it on here. Without white knighting them I will defend this GCS team by answering you and dub’s what have they done question. They didn’t just beat MRA they dismantled them with Smith putting on a clinic. Even with MRA down and without their best player that’s the game that got people talking. People that didn’t even know GCS was a previous past champion themselves and a game that should’ve been played the year before because would’ve been a classic like their basketball game. They then gave Prep their worse home loss and Smith most yards ever passed against them. They go from a team that didn’t almost have a team or a school previous years ago to a team that went into the 4th quarter down 16-14 to Georgia’s #1 team. And not for early butterflies might’ve taken a lead into the 4th. That’s why I think the 1st quarter will be key in this game. If the moment is too big for GCS early on Oak Grove could take 2 TD lead and just be catch-up from there. Back to the what have they done. All you gotta do is look at Greenwood this year. Greenwood went from a 4A contender to would prob finish no better than 3rd behind Simmons and McEvans in the 1A delta region. That’s a lot of change they’ve caused.

The reason why no one talked about them last year was because they scheduled their normal MAIS 3A-4A schedule. They actually first drew attention during last basketball season when they destroyed JA and Hartfield and should have beaten an overpowered MRA team. The attention comes when they beat big schools not blow out little schools by 60 points.

The game that should’ve drew everyone’s attention like it did in the delta was the 50-7 beat down of St Joe last year with DJ having over 300 yards in first half and a 5 TD lead.

How many 3+ star players does Greenville Christian have: 3

How many 3+ star players does Oak Grove have: maybe 1 and he's a offensive lineman

Dude we play 6A football. You think we don’t beat teams with multiple D1 kids on a yearly and weekly basis? With similar depth, mind you. This isn’t new to us.

GCS will be irrelevant after this year. When you have 31 players and 27 seniors plus barely having enough players to play junior high, that does not bode well for the program. Pastor McClendon and Coach Boogie better go recruit more players! It’s a shame the Greenwood players couldn’t go back and defend their title at Greenwood.

All that being said, I’m pulling for Oak Grove.

Why couldn't they go back? When school ended last may, what kept those players from going back to their original school
