Will Oak Grove and Greenville Christian really play each other Sept. 17?

Absent a subpoena issued, or the MAIS investigating and GCS complying, this won't occur and you know it.

MAIS schools are private schools. Recruiting - by definition - is their lifeblood. Recruiting does not violate the MAIS rules. Sponsorship - ie., single boosters paying for athletes to attend a school - does violate the rule. I quoted the rule verbatim above to support that point.

It is true that other schools have engaged in sponsorship and continue to do so. MRA has done it for years. JP has done it to a lesser extent. JA does it. Hartfield does it. St. Joe-Madison has several kids being sponsored by a single booster right now. Because so many have done it or are doing it with a few athletes, you have the equivalent of a bunch of cars speeding on the highway right in front of the highway patrol. So long as they aren't exceeding the speed limit by more than a few miles per hour, the MAIS isn't going to do anything.

The problem with GCS is similar to what MRA was caught doing several years ago. GCS is driving 100 MPH right in front of the cops. Whether the MAIS will turn on the lights and chase the school down remains to be seen. But please - save the "actual proof" nonsense.

I heard about MRA getting caught but I never heard what happened in full.

A lot of it is kids recruiting kids. This isn’t the Jackson area all spread out. The delta is a community where everybody knows everybody. These kids hang out and play ball with each other and once the Greenwood players decided to stay their senior year other players from Washington County and other areas decided to come. Is there behind the door stuff going on? Prob so been happening for a long time everywhere else so no new news.

GCS isn’t doing anything illegal. Is it best for their school in the long run??  That’s up to their board to figure out. I will say that route resulted in the closer of Trinity, Heidelberg, and Huntington.

but the situations were all different. GCS case those kids did what they had to do to play in 2020, I don’t blame them or anybody involved.

Heidelberg’s enrollment was slowly dying anyway and recruiting in mass was a last ditch effort to build a competitive 11 man team.

Trinity was addicted to winning and willing to do whatever it took and Hunnington was just trying to keep up with Trinity

I have a friend who saw Heritage play last week at East Union.  The QB is a phenom.  From where all is heritage getting players from?

The QB has always been at Heritage.   He’s pretty good.   They’ve had players from New Hope, Columbus, and Noxubee County that I know of in the last few years.   The 15-0 football team a few years ago that also won the overall in basketball and a couple state championships had some talented kids that had been at HA since the beginning along with some kids that had transferred over from Columbus Christian before 9th grade due to some issues at that school.   There is an emphasis on the athletic program that wasn’t there 8-10 years ago.  That also gets kids, and parents, looking at the school as apposed to the school having to go search for players.

How many schools have had an entire starting lineup of transfers?   I don’t have a problem with it, but we can’t say that other schools have done this forever.  It’s a pretty unique situation.

That article was ridiculous though.

I'm referring to recruiting, but this is recruiting on steroids. But somewhat legal, I guess?

Heritage I believe is one of the few big private schools that does a really good job of actually developing their own players. I could be wrong though.

Forget about the recruiting talk for a minute. Here’s my question… for such a small school with financial and facility issues plus lack of alumni support… where is the money coming from for 2 sets of brand new helmets, 3 new jerseys, and 3 new pants? That’s a nice chunk of change, especially for a school that has had issues paying employees consistently in the past.

All it takes is one booster who wants to win.  He doesn’t care if teachers are paid or if the AC works.   He also probably won’t pitch in if they go back to losing.  Lol
