KOshooter
I’m hearing from a reliable source that Leake Central & Leake County are consolidating. Supposedly 4A Leake Central moving up to 5A for the coming school year. I’m wondering how that will work in mid-cycle.
CK1
In 2018 Winona and Montgomery County consolidated in a mid year. Winona was 2A at the the time and was bump up to 3A. Winona had to find a district that would take them in order to play for a Championship. Winona was force to play the south as a member or region 5 and travel for all district games. That year Winona went 13-1 losing in the third round to Seminary.
Rebel Bert
The plan was presented to MHSAA last week. I have heard the Jr high and high school at Leake County will move and become part of Leake Central. They will be 5A by 2027 for sure. As to 2026 that is up to MHSAA. We will probably know more today.
MSSportsGuy
What's weird to me is Strayhorn continued to play as a 1A after Coldwater closed. The MHSAA didn't even put another school in that region, there were only 3 football teams for those two years. Wonder why Leake is being moved up? They will move up in 2027 definitely. 2026 is the unknown issue other than certain schools on their schedule have open datesas of last week.Only Leake Central coach seems to know what MHSAA decided last week. I thing the new coach at Leake Central is looking to shake up the schedule he inherited despite being a 4A, independent, or future 5A. Rebel Bert
The first question has been answered. Leake Central and Leake County are consolidating this summer. The Leake County coach will be the head coach. They will play in Region 2 5A in 2026.
Rebel Bert
I have been told there will be 7 schools in Region 2 5A. That leaves 4 schools in Region 5 4A. Then all schools affected will scramble to fill open dates.

Rebel Bert
The Leake County folks are fighting the consolidation. I don’t blame them the board to my knowledge never had a hearing.

MSSportsGuy
Fighting consolidations rarely works. School boards see the financial side of things the public does not.

Original consolidation named one school Leake County and the other Leake Central, called both the Gators, and colors black and orange.
