West Jones is definitely a top ten team. They are better than a couple of those teams in there ahead of them with all due respect.

I had them in there and then last minute put Winona in instead cuz Winona so far has the better resume with their win over Grenada.

McComb’s on deck for the top 10 with their impressive win over Mendenhall.  Why does 1-2 Brandon look so goofy in the top 10?  I think it’s one of those brain tricks LOL

I was stumped on what to do with Brandon, Winona and West Jones so I let calpreps decide it for me on projected matchups between the three.

My polls go like Little 10 is 1A-3A and the top poll is the ten best teams regardless of classification.

Ok gotcha.  Now that makes sense.  Back in the dark ages when the Clarion Liar was a decent newspaper, when you would get it delivered to your driveway like before 6:00 AM in Picayune, MS and it came all the way from Jackson, they had the Super 10 and Little 10 polls in the Sports section.

only relevant team wj played is laurel They played no one

That’s mainly what kept them out and Brandon in cuz as much as I don’t like to put a 1-2 team in I looked at Brandon’s and West Jones strength of schedule.

I think 1-8 are good selections that can’t be questioned. 9-10 could easily be replaced with some of the others receiving votes.

Back then i looked forward to seeing that 100 page high school football preview in the sunday morning clarion ledger the week before the season started. Read part of it before church, the rest after church.

So, with Hancock undefeated, playing well, and scoring big, why would someone pick Petal over them?

Great question, but does Hancock pose a legitimate threat?  They made the 6A playoffs last year for the first time in a very long time.  It’s been nearly 20 years since we last played them.  They probably will make the playoffs again this year, but what happens when they run into Hattiesburg and West Jones?  Hancock just has a bunch of walls out there LOL.

Im not sure they are to be honest.

Really worried about the offense.  They are starting every game really slow.  Had trouble moving the ball for a quarter vs northeast jones and then the entire first half vs south jones.  WR’s a tad slow off the line and not creating separation.  Running game would be better if they didn’t run from the spread with only the rb in backfield.  Needs a blocker out front imho.

Is it the SOS that has you concerned or is it something else?

mead updating my post as you posted with reasons.

I’ll expand on it here a tad.  Offensive playcalling been very vanilla.  They didn’t move the ball vs south jones till they started running stuff that hasn’t been seen first 3 games.  So coaches maybe sandbagging the offense in these non-district games.  I don’t know.  But I’m worried about the offense.

The Hawks have a veteran QB and big linemen. Their usual problem is a lack of skill position players. Their players have become used to playing against the big schools, and their facilities have been improved lately. I don’t know what’s happened to the Petal program that used to put up some good teams a decade ago. Just kind of stands out for an undefeated team to be the underdog. Win this one, and they will be coming after the Maroons!

They won’t be playing the Maroons till November.  We’ll find out what they’re made of.

They may be a little slow out the gate but when lights get brighter they tend to turn it on. If not a top 10 definitely top 12 they will be there. To many athletes.
