Oak Grove at Hoover

I like Oak Grove in a close one as well. Couple things I’ll throw out there…

1. Hoover hasn’t started a season 0-2 since 2007 which was Rush Propst last season coaching there.

2. Last time Hoover lost back to back home games was 2017 against Thompson and IMG. Only twice has it happened since 1999 when Propst took over and made Hoover a household name.

3. In year 2 of each of the last two Hoover coaches, Hoover won the state championship. This is Wade Waldrop’s 2nd year coaching there.
4. Hoover is 3-0 all time against Mississippi. Good luck Oak Grove!!! Go out there and give them loss #1.

Win lose or draw it’s just insane to see how far our program has come in the last 20 years to even have Hoover on the schedule. I think this might be the best team we could possibly take over there talent wise so if we don’t get it done now we probably never will. They’ll be a pissed off bunch after losing to Auburn but OG is pissed about how the last two seasons ended. We’ll give em hell and see what happens.

Dub’s gonna get a dub in this one.  I think Oak Grove has the team to get it done.

Dub is this a home and home agreement or just a one time deal?

I’m not sure. We played Rummel and John Curtis one time each so this may be a 1 time deal as well. But don’t quote me on that.

I know Hoover beat SP twice… who’s the 3rd team?

Is it just me or does every time Hoover plays an out of state team it’s at Hoover

I was wondering the same thing but they’ve actually played a good bit on the road. They’ve played South Panola, Oakland TN, Allen TX, Grayson GA, Colquitt County GA, Camden County GA and Byrnes SC on the road.

Dang that’s a good road schedule I retract my statement lol. But it just seems like they’re always playing at home. Thanks for the info

Leave it to an Ocean Springs fan to throw shade because his precious Greyhounds aren’t getting all the attention now that Hubbard is gone. We don’t need to watch anything play out to know how much talent we have. A blind man can see that. And that’s the whole point. We know we’re talented, but we don’t know how good we will be.

1. Gulfport is the best team on the coast. According to all the coaches in 7a that made their MSGridiron vote anyway. Take that up with them or prove em wrong.

2. You love bringing up last year so much… OG beat last years runner up (Brandon) late in the regular season.

3. Amazing the audacity someone can develop after their school finally had one good playoff run in almost 20 years.

Dub, I’m just talking football. Has nothing to do with where I’m from. If this is going to be a spat between us and about my team instead of me trying to learn what is going to happen when two really good teams play Friday night, I’ll bow out right now. I thought I was giving OG fans a chance to tell me exactly why they will win. Sorry to stir the hive. Seriously, sorry to have insulted you. It’s just talking football.

Oak Grove has looked really good in the spring and in the fall scrimmage against a good Gulfport team. Their win over Wayne Cty. might not be more than a warm up, but it highlighted their explosive offense. Division 1 talent all over the field. They have put themselves in position to prove their rankings to those of us who aren’t sure OG is the best team in the state or even in the south, so winning this one will go a long way until they hit the meat of their schedule, especially those games against Brandon and NW Rankin. Playing in Hoover makes this a little tougher. I’ve got the Warriors winning, but in a close match.

My prediction, OG 45 - Hoover- 3

From the highlights I saw vs Wayne County, OGs defense is too strong for those bama boys

Hoover is a totally different animal. With much respect to WC. Because I think they will do really good in 5a this year. This senior group has played in some really big games and we have put some tough OOS opponents on the schedule the last few years so experience won’t be an issue. I personally think it will come down to if our coaching staff can get it done. Specifically on offense. Hoover is extremely tough in the front 7. Will probably be the most physical team we face. But I do think AJ and our WR group can have some success against their secondary. We have to make sure we don’t go in with the big head after this past week.. and Hoover shouldn’t take us lightly since we aren’t as nationally recognized as they are.

From the eye test Oak Grove look like the best team down south, and Starkville look like the best from the north. Just my opinion early on!!! (mark my words) Pearl is trending up....

Pearl?  What does a team that went 2-9 a year ago have to do with Oak Grove vs. Hoover?
