West Jones vs. Laurel

could be a defensive battle. WJ qb may be a work in process but with the talent they have on the line and being healthy at RB (best one knocked out for season in first q vs laurel last year) it’s possible they just run it down laurels throat with that 6’2”+ 220lb rb they got.  Laurel also lost a lot more than WJ did from last year.

Dont get me wrong.  The homer in me says Wj takes it 27-10.

i think it’s Gona shock some teams when Wj trots out there with all but 1starter on offense being over 6’1 and the entire o line being 260+.  And 7 on defense being over 6’2 with the entire d line going 250+.  And I’m being modest vs the numbers I have actually been told.  Thus should be the most physically imposing team Wj has fielded in a long while. The rb’s last year were 9th and 10 grade.  Both had fumble issues last season. The injury to the sophomore vs laurel ended his season. If the coaches fixed the fumble issues then biggest hurdle will be the maturity of the 9th grade qb

I don’t think there is a team on their schedule than an score more than 14 on that defense

Laurel huge on both lines. Their o line stands up at the snap. They get no push. Could be credit to WJ d line.  They have had zero success with normal running plays.  Only time they move ball is 15+ yard throws that get caught (twice) or pass interference on WJ (2 or 3) or the qb takes off running after west secondary is 20 yards down field covering receivers.  Their qb is fast.

west has lost 3 yards every first down.  Laurel sending 7-8 every play covering wests wr’s man coverage only.  Daring wests 9th grade qb to throw.  He has only thrown more than 8 yards twice so far one caught laurel for interference on the laurel 5 (horse collared the wr before he got u set ball in endzone).  Wj had no running success in first q with TV’s but instead on designed qb keepers.  Wj started to get yards running in 2nd with rb’s.

Laurel totally abandoned running in 2nd.  Everything is pass with qb keeping it after 2-3 seconds of not finding receiver.

Laurels points came after West picked off laurel on the west 1.  Then a handoff around the end was stopped in the endzone.

10-2 west at the half.

Why not? What did they run out of?

It’s the spread.  1 back beside qb. Only in the past WK typically had 4 wr last night they mostly used 3 and a blocking TE.

I felt like running plays took too long to develop. I didn’t like any of the wr routes in passing game. Way too easy to see where the ball would go after the snap.

I just felt with the way the players look this year that instead of passing to set up the run like they under Scott Pierson that some 2 back sets would make more sense and focus more on run first.

as it was vs laurel it’s easy to tell before snap if run or pass and after it’s easy to figure out which wr the ball will be thrown too.
