pancho
Next year basketball will run until the saturday before the week of spring break. What logic lead them to this decision?

You can not expect logic from those at the MHSAA. They don't enforce the rules they have such as the "practice out of season" rule. I know schools which practice before school year round or have "one on one" session training that they don't call practice

They just wont have their players if they happen to make a run in the postseason

Chunky6617
Will the season get later start now?
coastball
Practice can start Oct 20 ( even though most schools violate that rule) First official game Nov 4. So, I don't think it's any earlier
GuyThatKnowsBallKinda
This was probably the result of some influential coaches upset about having to start district play in December because of how the calendar fell last year. Most coaches don't want to have to play district games in early December if they got football kids coming back and not wanting to play district games over the Christmas break. Could it have something to do with the coliseum? Several years back they had to adjust the schedule because it was booked the week they normally held the state tournament. I have just heard a bunch of griping throughout the season about the schedule.

It was designed by football coaches so they could keep kids in the weight room year round. If a kid wants to play basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, or whatever year round then they should be able to and with coaching. MAIS schools don't have to abide by this BS rule and they share athletes at a higher percentage than most public schools.

It's clear you and I don't see eye to eye on things but at least in America we can agree to disagree.
pancho
this rule does hurt baseball and softball since their seasons still begin the same time and end the same. baseball and softball seasons are not extended. you have boys and girls who play both baseball and softball along with basketball.
