Better question is why does GC hire him. He isn’t going to keep the spread offense, he will run off any decent coaches we have, and I feel like he will be gone after December.

He is really close to retirement I believe. They say bringing in a big name as the DC. (May be the guy in waiting) he may be bring a coach or two with him from FC. Thing is he has been a winner mainly everywhere he's been. I think you could have hired worse if that makes sense

Dolan has already retired and got a great deal to leave D'Iberville way back to return to FCAHS. I'm sure he has a package worked out that allows him to stay under his retirement pay and probably have no classes. He's a smart cookie at negotiating those deals

I agree. It could have been much worse, but I think they should have went after a younger coach that would be more inclined to stay. I just haven’t seen a lot of retired guys be really involved in the community and truly invest in places if that makes sense.

If you are willing to hire somebody as “head coach in waiting” then why not just go ahead and give that guy the job?

He won’t be invested in the community. He’s not moving to Greene County. To be honest he had 90 thousand reasons to be at Pearl River Central and Football wasn’t one of them

Dolan really again. Leave your home I guess he will bring his son to coach @Greene County. I think this maybe a good hire if he gets some good assistants on staff.

So it was 90K?  I thought it was hitting the 6 digit mark or well north of it.

@Mower Man 63if his net was 90K, then yes he was hitting well north of 6 digits on the gross end.  That definitely was a crazy amount of money.

It may very well have been a lot higher. Collins was making around 86K as Head Coach and a teacher so I just assumed with Dolan being Head Coach and AD that he made a few thousand more. Either way that is the only reason he was there

Yes a great hire. Greene County is fortunate to get Larry Dolan as head coach. Hes a winner that knows how to win.

If he knows how to win, then what happened at PRC in 2016?  Eric Collins had PRC at 11-2 in 2015 and Larry Dolan had PRC at 4-7 in 2016.  Why did they fall so far in that one year timespan and why haven't they been able to recover?  I realize that 2015 PRC team was very senior heavy, but to fall that far?  He inherited a district champion football team and sunk like a lead weight on a fishing line.  The fall was even worse in 2017 going 1-10.  I hope he does great at Greene County, but this is concrete physical, historical evidence that shows what happens when he gets handed a district champion, just like Greene County.  For Greene County's sake this doesn't need to be a de-ja-vu.  (Hopefully it won't).

I think you have to look at what he has done over the course of his career. He has a historically winning record and on top of that, competes year in and year out for district titles. While he has only one state title, he puts his teams in the best position to win, and his teams are always prepared to play.

Hopefully that's the Larry Dolan that Greene County gets because there's another one out there they need to avoid.

Good Coach for sure all I really know about his teams is they play hard every snap. He’s typically a wing T guy. Being from WC I can tell you that’s a big sell to a spread team. Coach Hankins is finally getting the kids to buy into it but he’s heading into season number four and he’s not completely wing t and Coach Dolan may not be.
