David
Last year’s region champs: Starkville—— Eventual state champions Tupelo—— Lost in north state championship game Brandon—— South state champions Ocean Springs—— Lost in south state championship game How do things work out this season? It’s time to start talking ball. A couple of teams are smack talking, but generally it’s been really quiet with a couple of weeks remaining before opening day. dogsoldier74
Starkville was 4th in their region last year, Tupelo won it. Southhaven won the other region and lost in the first round.

I think 7a will be the same but with Oak grove and Brandon at south not sure how OS will fair after what they lost. Majority of 7a seems pretty young and probably another year or two away but as of now Brandon, Oak Grove, Starkville, and Tupelo are probably the most complete teams we'll see starting off. I honestly started this topic as an Ocean Springs fan to gather some information and gauge how we might stack up in the south. I get that the O.G. QB will be another year older, and if he can eliminate some of the immature mistakes I saw last year, he could be special. What does he have around him other than the fact that they always bring talent up? Brandon also seems to reload every year, and the big running back will return. But, didn’t they lose some key players, and if so, how do they match up with O.G.? Ocean Springs may well have more overall talent and depth than last year, especially on a defense that returns just about every player. Of course, losing the best player in the state at QB means that there are questions, but the Oline will be just as strong, and the RBs go three or four deep. New head coach is the long time offensive coordinator, so there’s continuity even when losing the head coach to Gulfport. Speaking of the Admirals, as what I guess is the #2 in the Coast region, can their new head coach overcome some missteps early on in conflict with state rules? Returning talent at RB and defense, but lost several good defensive players to transfer and canceled transfers. On the Coast alone, the matchup with O.S. will be important. I’ll wait for others to layout the north half, other than knowing that Starkville returns two dandies, and have to be the overall state favorites. He has 4 skill guys with D1 offers including a Mississippi State commit to throw the ball to. To answer your AJ question.

maroontide06
I think JJ and Stonka will wind up being like the football versions of TA and Rowdey.
ogwarriorbandman
I think Blake Levine has the best preseason poll and it will be Starkville and Oak Grove playing for 7A. This OG team has perhaps its best D since the year they beat Tupelo for the CHIP. The O has a lot of talent and AJ is much improved with age and summer camps. He has several WRs this year and I think a very strong RB in Champagne. A physical 200 lb baller.
