To add on to that, chunky is one of the most up front guys there is when he’s discussing Mize so that was ridiculous to say about him. He never makes them out to be something they’re not.

I really enoyed the reports Chunky gave from the jamorees he attended - seemed very fair and well balanced @Chunky6617

I’m not gonna hype Mize up unless it’s warranted. I said we would be a lot better last year, and we were. We won our region and got beat by a really good Velma Jackson squad in a close game in the playoffs. This year we will more than likely be better than last year. We do have to replace our QB and both wingbacks but we will not be strictly a double wing run only team this season. We will be a little more multiple but nothing super crazy. Last years QB was not a passing threat. This years QB is more of a passing threat. Our wingbacks will be more talented than last years wingbacks, but they will be inexperienced. One of them could be a D1 recruit eventually and started at cornerback last season as an 8th grader. We return 3 offensive linemen and our tight ends, plus we are adding a transfer from West Jones who just moved in here. We return most of our defense from last season. I felt we would be a little better this season, and after watching us against Bay Springs I feel even better about that. I do not believe we are much different than Bay Springs will be, and I feel good about Bay Springs.

They’ll have to replace some guys on defense because they lose 2 of their linebackers and all but 1 guy from starting secondary. Not sure about their DL. My previous statement about their offense is because they return pretty much everyone on that side of the ball and just my opinion but should have the best QB in 2A with Hickmon who will only be a junior. Part of me wants to put them at the top of 2A North but hard to go against Charleston tradition and Calhoun City was a young team last year who should have a much better year. Eupora is going to take a step back with Ty Murphy graduating and not sure what Philadelphia is bringing back so I do think Union wins that region.

I agree with your assessment.  I think Union, Charleston and Calhoun all have a legitimate shot.  All three have a lot coming back.  Eupora lost a lot.

Bay Spring gone roll 2A just like 1A.  Raleigh better than Mize my opinion. Think SC fall off some this year.  I hope Mize good as Chunky think.  Been awhile since they was good.  I like they coach.

Bay Springs can win 2A, but they wont roll through like they did in 1A. Not even close. They never had a close game in 1A last year except for maybe the championship game. Mize was good last season. Just not quite at championship contender level. And they were pretty equal to Bay Springs last Thursday. Were you there?

Based on the schedule I saw SC put out I don’t think Stockstill was expecting much from this years team. He lightened it up big time.

It’s not too bad of a schedule. A couple of easier games in there but when you got a new group of players you don’t want to load it up too much. Their opponents are close by so it won’t be very much travel for the away games. That’s good for gate money.  They can’t control who is in their region, but bay springs is in it with them so that will be a good one. They will battle it out for the #1 and #2 spot. I think clarkdale lost a lot from last season.

He kicked peoples teeth in and then bolted when it was time for them to get even. Maybe he knew he was leaving and didn’t want to leave a new coach with a young team and tough schedule.

Bay springs has two backs that are 210-215. Both are a load but #25 seems to be the more physical of the two. They aren’t going to throw it very much. They may try to some but their strength will still be running the ball. They attempted a handful of passes against us last week and none were that close.

I’ll probably get crucified for this but if you want to beat 2A North delta teams all you have to do is have a balanced offense. If someone gets offended all they have to do is look back at the Eupora/North Side and Choctaw County/Leflore County playoff games from last year. Delta teams struggle against teams that can pass and have mobile QB’s. Charleston is usually the exception.

They will still be good. Just inexperienced. Much like Raleigh. By the end of the season they could be hitting their stride

Agreed, “down” has a different meaning for them than most. But make no mistake they won’t be able to replace 20 something  seniors. Still go few round deep in playoffs.

Lake is a team who could be dangerous, I’m sure they will be tough of defense. New OC will be interesting.

Scott central is going to better than y’all thinking. I have seen their underclassmen. They were good in youth and in junior high. They just were behind the big 2022 class. They will not be as good as last year, but they will still be solid. Just gonna take a little bit to get some experience.

Oh they from more than just Forest. They from Forest, Lake, Morton, Carthage, Etc… if Forest were smart, they would form a youth football league and that would help solve some of the problems they have had.

2A North

Charleston

Calhoun City

Eupora

Water Valley

Mize won't be the 2nd best team in 2a South; Raleigh Scott Central Bay Springs Lake Philadelphia Union will be better; Mize lost its two best offensive players from last year; nothing special about Mize; no great speed or athletes; everyone in 2a is lucky Velma Jackson dropped down because they would be the best team in 2A.

not sure velma would have been the better team if they stayed in 2A it would have been close but I am not quite sold on anything about them besides the running back#9 that they got over there.

Yea they are very solid group and they are not yet experience but they are probably more skilled and athletic than alot of these teams mentioned on this post and I wouldn't be surprise if they end up in south state against bay springs.
