@RUNNINGMAN67how do you feel about coast district moving forward?

Football on the coast is never really going to change. You will occasionally get a team that has a pretty good class that is good for 3 or 4 years then its back to mediocrity.  Ocean Springs is just three years removed from having a losing season back in 2019. Those seniors this past season were freshmen that yr. Now we will see if that was just a team that had a good 3yr run or if they are now an established program where 10 win seasons and deep playoff runs are going to be a common thing. Same thing with Gautier. Did they just catch lightning in a bottle because they had a great QB the past few seasons or will they now be a potential title contender year in and year out?

100% agree with this statement. I’d like to see what happens next year. You’ll get a good look at a lot of the coast’s programs directions. Like East Central for example. Had two really great years and back to one and outs! We’ll see!

Would you consider Picayune Coast, Tung Belt, or Pine Belt?  I have a feeling we are neither Coast or Pine Belt LOL, even though we'll be in Region 4-6A which is the coastal region.

When I say coast teams I am referring to Harrison Hancock Jackson county area and along Interstate 10. To me Pearl River Central Picayune Poplarville  Stone and George Co are not coastal teams.

It's always hard to decipher this. I've always felt GC wasn't coast. People in the Pine Belt call us the coast. People on the coast don't consider us the coast. I don't really know what we are.

Does GC get any news coverage with Pine Belt or Coast football?

Depends on what region we're in. When we were in region 3 the Pine Belt covered us more. We get Coast coverage a lot because we've typically always been in that region. I do remember back in the early to mid 2000s that region games for GC were Laurel, South Jones, Picayune, Forrest Co., Petal, Stone, and PRC. That's kinda all over the map though.

I know Wayne County and Laurel are not coast teams. But they are in the coast region in 5A next year and it’s going to be a good region. I not sure what everyone brings back, I know WC was you and I believe Laurel was to.

I know it’s going to be a good region and Picayune won’t be in it.  That’s what depresses me about next year.

I honestly believe you guys are overselling what that region is going to be. East Central, Gautier, and Vancleave are replacing a quite a bit of players. Stone is losing some of its playmakers too. I know Laurel and Wayne county make the region “pop” but after them I believe the rest will not be that great.

Even with a worst case scenario as you are describing,  it’ll still be a better region than what we will be in.  I just hope Goula, Hancock & George County can make things interesting for us.

How so? Hancock would have been just as competitive as Vancleave was. I think Pascagoula would have finished 3rd at minimum in that region. George County being as bad as they were was a head scratcher for me though I will have to be honest. I expected a lot more from them. Laurel and Wayne county definitely up the credibility with their names, but that is it in my opinion. Swap out the rest and I do not believe it is anything world beating.

Well I hope you’re right about Hancock and Goula because I think they will be playoff contenders next year in region 4-6A.  I also think George County can make some noise as well since they’ll be another year older.  I guess I just want the best for Region 4-6A because iron sharpens iron.

I also think if West Harrison can improve upon from what they did this year then that will be a great contribution to region 4-6A as well.  I’m not ready to call them playoff contenders just yet, but if they can make the necessary steps forward without regressing then they probably get themselves in for the first time in school history.

Pascagoula would’ve missed the playoffs. I don’t think you watched a down of pascagoula playing last year, respectfully. They wouldn’t have beat a healthy east central. They wouldn’t have beaten Vancleave either.

I actually watched a good bit of them this year thanks to their broadcasts on YouTube. We can agree to disagree on that matter.

All right, I can’t take it anymore. All I know is that my O.S. Greyhounds have been dogged for years about losing in the playoffs. Upgrade your schedule, they said. Expand your facilities they said, including doubling the size of the stadium and the weight room. Hire a premier coach. Develop young players through a coordinated program through the lower grades. Build the support groups of boosters and athletic association for fund raising. Compete for state recognition. Win a playoff game. Win two. Raise expectations to do that every year. Well, we didn’t win the ring, but we damned sure gave it a pretty good two year run. I’m hoping that we can bring the rest of the Coast along with us, and we’d be proud to call Picayune part of the Coast if they’d have us. Having them on the schedule next year at least means that we’ll learn a little more about winning it all. I don’t know if Ocean Springs continues this run, but I’ve got a year where I don’t have to hear how much better the rest of the state is than us. Maybe Brandon & Starkville. Maybe. Y’all can dog the rest of the Coast if you want, but keep our names outta your mouths for at least a year. I’m out. (I’m getting pretty good at this trash talk, eh? Learning from the best) Greyhounds by fawty!
