Next year huh? Lol! Ready to get back to gold ball winning now. Those back to back L's don't sit right with us.

I understand completely, but this Maroon Tide team is on a mission and it’s one of those teams that only comes along one in about 12-15 years.  They truly are the real deal and they are special to watch.  By no means am I trying to downplay the State Championship game, but this team wants something more than that.  I realize the season ends for both teams on Friday (win or lose), but maybe there’s some sort of a National High School Football Championship Tournament out there.  I know that’s wishful thinking, but why haven’t they come up with something like that yet?

I agree with Mr. Tide. I watched their live stream south state and they seem to be unstoppable. Picayune 35- West Point- 14

Unfortunately the only thing that's going to stop this team is the absence of scheduled football games after Friday night.  I'm going to miss watching this team play.

Coach Stog gonna have them boys ready to play. I'm calling a 25+ point Tide win. Stogner going to have two consecutive gold balls and a possibility for a 3rd next year. No doubt the best Coach in the state.

I'm pretty confident almost any coach would be considered "best coach in the state" if they had that roster.

I don't think a team gets this far just on raw talent and skill.  That definitely plays a part but if that's all there is then wouldn't we have seen George County make the playoff this year and possibly have a winning season?  There's talent and skill in Lucedale that should get you that far if that's the bare minimum qualification.  In other words you can mostly throw this theory out of the water if you would like.  We've definitely had some coaching adjustments that have helped us get this far.  Yes we have a lot of talent and a lot of skill, but it has to be used and exploited properly for that type of success to show.  I think this might be the reason why Tib downvoted your post.

I don't care about downvotes. I'm just getting at that I'm pretty confident Lee could've done this with this team. It doesn't discredit who is there now. By all accounts he's very good, but it's fool's gold to deny that he was handed a very good situation.

I understand and I agree with where you are coming from.  The Picayune philosophy has been very consistent and the coaching staff has been consistent as well and they haven't deviated from that philosophy because in reality they can't.  That Maroon Tide offense gets taught to them at a very young age so it's kind of interwoven in our community.  It becomes about execution at the varsity level and can you execute it?  If you can, you'll have success.

25+ Point win? Yeah ok 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It'll be a tough game for sure and I wouldn't expect anything less; however, I don't think it will be shootout-like when we played Gautier the last week of the regular season.  It's going to boil down to which team makes the least amount of mistakes and can control the time of possession.

Since Stogner and his staff took over there has been a different energy flowing through these football teams than we had in the past.

West Point offense is the key to this game. Namely their offensive line. If they can hold their own and stay ahead of the chains on third down they have a chance. I think 28- 31 points by either team will win this game .

Everyone thinks the maroon tide will win including me. As I sit around thinking about this game though 05 keeps popping in my mind. We were undefeated and just overwhelming people with our passing game . I was flying into Jackson from way down south man the party was on. “ Who were we playing again ? West joint? Yea I’ll have one. Ooohhh West Port , never heard of em. I think they are close to Tupelo. It’s just academic though right “.

Arrogance from all of us. That tune changed pretty dam quick. They made it a point on every play to have somebody in Drex’s face or chase Lampley to the edge where they could run him down. It was a defensive masterpiece for sure but the thing that still sticks with me today is the WP QB scrambling for seven or eight yards on third down over and over again and again. He kept our offense off the field as much the WP defense did.

That was the only loss we had for two seasons.

Okay that’s far enough down memory lane. I will just say this nobody plays up being the underdog like they do in West Point. We will see what they look like facing the wing t for the second time. Not to mean this in the wrong way but I think they didn’t take Picayune as seriously as they should have last season.and by the time they did they were dealing with a run away train.

It’s funny you mention the 28-31 range because I was saying to my boy this morning that the first team to 30 will win this.

i wasn’t  “down voting”.  as the emoji says, i was saying “uh no”. as in i disagree.

go watch the first gautier game. then watch the 2nd and see how they switched to a three man rush and were successful with it, dropped the backers and ended up with 4 picks from who i think is the best passing qb in ms.

i do not believe just any coach and staff could devise that plan, coach the kids up on it in short time, and then execute it with all the chips on the line.

i am a fan of what coach Lee did. if you tell me he could of won a title with this team i wont argue. he might. but thats conjecture. a lot of coaches would have lost with this team to laurel or west jones or gautier. cody won.

As I read all the comments on here  some of them are very funny. This is not last year Green Wave team the game will go down to the wire can't wait for BIG GREEN to take the field save travel to you all.

how come wp fans always say this is not last year when they lost last year, and at the same time they wanna bring up gold balls from farther back in time as if that matters this year?

just wondering.

1. we may be saying the same thing, Slick, but I would say it different. Picayunes defense is the key to this game imho.

2. we might not win but Picayune will not lose because of arrogance and chest thumping. i am not seeing that at all. we know who we are and what we have to do.
