  1. No Wayne County love in 5A? I agree with 6A. South Panola will be a perennial participant in the north half finals at bare minimum
  2. Yeah 6A north would not be that great. You would have Panola, Olive Branch, Lake Cormorant, Neshoba as you contenders most likely. Possibly Pearl if they were to move them north.
  3. I assume that would be part of the vote in April. Use 2021-2022 numbers and start 7 classifications in the fall for two years. So next reclassification would be 2024-2025 I would imagine.
  4. I was told there will be two votes over the next 4-5 months and then a final vote done in October. Anyone know if that is factual?
  5. Oak Grove had posted an OC/QB on the MHSAA website, but it was changed to an assistant coach position with possible coordinator duties. So I would assume it is a done deal.
  6. Lander and Hockaday have both been there 12+ years. Have worked under some good head coaches. They may not have the HC experience, but they definitely have some great things they would bring to the table. I expect Ladner to be the guy. If they pass him over again, he needs to get out of that situation.
  7. I always though the enrollment numbers were taken early in the school year for grades 9-12, because that is the population of the school.
  8. Hockaday and Ladner are the two big ones I have heard. I was not given any big names outside the area. Community support has definitely been behind Ladner the last two times they have hired a coach and were not thrilled when he did not get the job. I expect he is the guy. Hockaday is another one who has some support and has been there forever. Would not surprise me if he got it either.
  9. I think he is pulling numbers from MDE site for the 2021-2022 school year. What you have is listed is what I got as well and posted on the 1st page I believe. 5A actually would be a monster because in the south, you would have Picayune, Wayne County, Brookhaven, North Pike and Laurel. The north would feature West Point, Lafayette, Ridgeland, Holmes County and Clarksdale.
  10. You would also most likely include the school that is coming from the consolidation of Mendenhall and Magee. They would most likely fit into 6A with their numbers and would be in Region 3. So it bolsters the region a little. Also, it’s possible Pearl could be region 3 as well since they are in the south half now, although they could keep the Jim and Forest Hill together too.
  11. Based on what I saw number wise, from last count. Hattiesburg would fall into region 3-6A if we went to 7 classes
  12. Harrison Central would move up to region 3 for 7A right? You left out Ocean Springs. If your numbers figure up, that means PRC/Picayune would be region 3 the then most likely?
  13. Pascagoula, George County, West Harrison, Pearl River Central, Long Beach, Gautier, Picayune and East Central? Are those the 8 you got?
  14. You are correct. Picayune was about roughly 30 or so students behind Gautier who would be the last 6A based on previous numbers. So there is definitely a chance for that . Either way, there is no perfect system and you will have some unhappy no matter how they do it. I personally like 7 classes. We don’t have the overall population like other states, but I also do not believe those states have the top heavy numbers like we do. I do not think they have close to 800 student difference between schools competing in the same class. I could be wrong, but it’s just a hunch. There are travel issues and things that need to be worked out and 7 classes helps with that. It is going to be interesting to see how this all plays out!
  15. Oh I agree. I’m just saying for those who want to stay 6 or go back to 5. That’s the only way. I’m 100% on board for 7 classes
  16. I think going to 5 classes or staying at 6 could work better if the state forced mass school consolidation of all the smaller communities/counties. There are so many smaller communities/counties with multiple schools that should be consolidated. What Magee/Mendenhall is doing should occur more often.
  17. I agree with this. If MHSAA does move to 7 classes though, Panola would be 6A most likely and I think they would be strong in that class
  18. Resurrection travels that now and has since moving into 1A. They are in a bind because there are not very many small schools nearby. Their closest opponent region wise is Sacred Heart in Hattiesburg - roughly a 2 hour trip on a bus.
  19. That is the point of going to 7. To stop having such a large gap at the top. Roughly 750+ separates largest 6A from smallest 6A. Travel for smaller classes are a nightmare in a lot of cases. Going to the 7A format tackles both of those issues and allows teams to schedule more geographic non-region games which helps with travel. 7 classes probably does water down the playoffs and all, but it creates more parity and makes the most sense for all involved in my opinion. I do understand why some would be against it though
  20. Probably best for them honestly. Football program has been bad for a while. Baseball is up and down. Basketball is competitive but basketball coach does not like to share athletes from what I hear.
  21. It works out well for football which is all I care about in this 7 classes model. Lol
  22. Each class 4-2A will have 40 teams that play football in them. The schools that don’t play football will be added into the regions for the other respective sports is how I was told it will work out.
  23. Proposed plan puts 40 in each class for football for 4-2A and 1A will have leftovers. Sports that don’t play football I assume will just be put into respective regions for those sports
