  1. I was thinking Marcus was still at Taylorsville. But like you I could be wrong at my age the years get away fast
  2. If Bubba is involved we will not go back to our roots. Bubba and Marcus were both up for the job when Bobby Hall left. When Marcus was hired there were hard feelings. Those feelings must still be in place because he’s never hired anyone associated with Marcus other than Mangum and we won a title.
  3. Absolutely they were that’s been 25 years ago so I can’t remember who did it. I can tell you Marcus was on Bobby Hall’s staff and when Bobby left he took over.
  4. I have not heard of anyone from Alabama that has applied. Monday I was told that there was 30 applications now I’m sure you have several that have never been a HC. However you have some top notch HCs that have applied. Let’s just hope they make a good decision. There’s a lot of truth to what Slick is saying. It seems like someone doesn’t want to give up the power he has to be in the limelight. He needs to move on and let someone else make this decision. I hope the board does their homework and if it is not a solid recommendation I hope they reject it. There’s no need to rush into a bad hire
  5. I was told as early as next week but I think the number of applicants it may be longer
  6. There’s several HCs that will surprise people if they knew and I’m not giving names that’s not my place. I know of four current 6A coaches whose names are in the hat. To give out names and if they don’t get the job it may cause issues with their current employer. I know there’s a few smaller school coaches also. Yes they’re OC and DC’s all the way up to 7A. I don’t know of any out of state schools at this point
  7. There’s a lot of applications coming in. Kind of surprised but at one time this was one of the more coveted jobs in the state.
  8. Oh I don’t either but Slick said they stayed one year too long. I took that to mean if the job had been open last year he may have took it.
  9. I believe he’s talking about former Greene County Coach. I’m not sure he ever had interest of coming or not so I can’t speak on that. I would have loved to have had him I believe he’s a very good coach.
  10. It’s my understanding that they are going to make the hire as soon as possible. They want the new coach to get in get his staff and take the team through spring workouts
  11. I am hearing a committee will make the recommendation but that’s hearsay. All I know for sure is Bubba is listed as contact
  12. The people at the top have gone away. The Principal is still there but has announced his retirement effective the end of the school year. With the exception of one it’s a new school board and the old Superintendent resigned in December. So all new school leadership
  13. You heard correctly he was there to be announced the next head coach. Instead the Superintendent went into an executive meeting and said nobody was to be announced and adjourned the meeting. The next day they hired Shelton Gandy.
  14. He always welcome on the sidelines at WC. The program he put on the map could sure use him to do it again. Realistically I never see it happening, I believe he finishes his career at Petal where his daughter teaches and grandson is in school watching him coach.
  15. I’m sure he gets along great with the interim Superintendent remember we are in the process of hiring a new Superintendent. As far as the board goes he has a form player on the board as well as one of his former players mom so I think he has good relationships there. When Marcus left it was in good standings here no hard feelings he did what he felt was best for his family.
  16. We will see …. If that’s the case he can bring in some people he’s familiar with. Back in WC’s championship days most of the coaches were local people that knew the kids. With the exception of Mangum, Murphy, Collums, who served as OC and DC on some of the teams. this is a lot of speculation on our parts because we have no clue who gets hired. If Lampley gets it look for your JR high coaches to be back on staff to get those feeder programs back involved I would say that happens even if Kevin Gandy is hired
  17. If I’m not mistaken there’s only about three coaches that may stay. The others were brought in from out of state by Coach Hankins. They may be given the option to stay but I think they return home
  18. Slick He also coached three seasons with Marcus Boyles at Petal. To go along with his time at Ocean Springs. Energizing the Fan base… all you have to do is get out around the community and listen to the people talking about the possibility of him coming home. Everyone knows that he’s never been a head coach. Like you said Marcus is just a phone call away. It will be a learning experience but I feel he brings in a good staff to help him make it a smooth transition. Most of all I believe you will see the sidelines full of players wanting to play. His old high school teammate Calvin McDougle has a couple of sons that are going to make some noise the next year or so just to name a couple.
  19. Of the names I’ve heard so far that eliminates all but two Daryl Carter and Cory Reynolds. Well I’ve heard one more but I believe it’s just wishful thinking. I remember the last time they hired a coach it was worded pretty much the same way and they had some really good applicants but went out of state. Another thing the post on the MHSAA says is contact Bubba Hathorne. He definitely turned in his retirement papers for the end of the school year. I don’t think he should have anything to do with hiring a new coach. It’s not like he’s going to be there next year.
  20. Baughman was an absolute joke when he was there. Coach Hankins looked like Nick Saban compared to him. Numbers wise he was very comparable to Henry. I will say this about Coach Hankins he’s a really good guy. He got a bad hand taking over for Kevin Gandy. Gandy was named interim during the COVID year and I thought did a pretty good job under the circumstances. The had to forfeit a few games that were region games so that killed him but wasn’t his fault. You had a lot of people who wanted him to get another year at least. So when they hired Coach Hankins a lot of people were upset and never let their kids play and I’m talking some good players. You still have that happening to kids walking the hallways not playing for him. Most of the kids that played for Hankins really liked him.
