  1. Laurel will be bigger, they always are. WJ is still going to have stop Benjamin some an force laurel to throw more than they want to. If they can could be game changing INTS. WJ 31 Laurel 30
  2. It's at West, but really not much of a home field advantage. These schools are 7 miles apart. Laurel will have as many fans probably as West, just a lot them will be standing on the track. Laurel certainly seems to be the favorite, some say by 20+ points now. West has lost a lot of key players this year, but that's football. The replacements though have been thru several tough games lately, so no excuses. I think the key for West will be stopping Benjamin enough to where Laurel gets in some 3 and long situations. WJ secondary has not been bitten by the injury bug and a couple of interceptions could be huge in this game, as to stopping Laurel and giving the WJ offense short fields.
  3. it was 24 to 6 with 2 minutes left 2nd qtr. Gautier driving and WJ intercepts at their 3 yard line, going to receive the 2nd kick and in total control, just need to run the clock out. They promptly snap it over the QBs head for a safety, kick off results in Gautier short field, Gautier runs their normal 2 minute offense, scores and gets the 2pt conversion. 24-6 becomes 24-16. You expect high school teams to make high school mistakes, but lately the WJ mistakes seem to come at the worst possible time and inflict maximum damage. I will say though that the 4th qtr drive, down 28-24 at the time, was a gut check, and WJ answered the bell.
  4. WJ 24 Gautier 16 half Laurel 38 George county 14 half
  5. West Jones 17 Gautier 6 6:00 2nd qtr
  6. Also would add, I'm am looking forward to seeing the Gautier QB play. Even though everyone seems to be running the spread offense these days, most don't have a true, skilled passing QB.
  7. I certainly did not think my post implied that Gautier had no chance. This is the playoffs and high school kids so no result is guaranteed. Just 2 years ago we saw WJ beat a Hattiesburg team with Snoop Conner badly that everyone had penciled in for State. The problems for WJ lately have been injuries and inconsistent play on offense. The defense has been the best unit, even after losing a really good LB. As a fan, I want to see the offense play a more complete game instead of just 1 good QTR.
  8. They will need some quick hitting passes if they plan on throwing that much. WJ defense has always been about speed, including the front 7, and this year is no different. If he doesn't get rid of the ball quickly, he will be getting chased by some guys that are most likely faster than the guys he is used to out running.
  9. I don't know much about GC, but Laurel ended the regular season playing the best of all the region 3 teams. Not surprised they beat Hattiesburg, although did not see that final score coming. Their running back is as good as I've seen this year. Gotta go with Laurel here.
  10. Some of these fans don’t follow the team close enough or pay attention enough to understand that a 3rd team starter at a key position makes a huge difference. Yet they are the loudest critic when things go wrong. It’s sad because the kids on the field are playing as hard as they can.
  11. West Jones 24 WC 19 final Defense gets game ball. Coaches clock management in 4th qtr needs some work.
  12. both teams coming off big wins and seem to be playing their best right now. 2 pretty good defenses also. I know Laurel had some untimely penalties that erased several big plays last week, or the WC game may have not been as close as it ended. I think the team with the least penalties and/or turnovers wins. Laurel 22 Hattiesburg 20.
  13. Gosh I hope not. Laurel has no parking. They draw 8000 an folks will be parking on 16th avenue an walking a mile to the brickyard. If you going better get there at 6.
  14. After 1st 2 weeks I thought South Jones would be the team that might beat one of the big four (WJ WC Laurel Hattiesburg). I was absolutely wrong. Brookhaven though could be dangerous, especially at their place. They have size, speed to get behind the defense. Against WJ, they had a ton of penalties early, but the offense did look better in the 2nd half.
  15. Laurel tied at half 14 14, with whoever the team is from Alabama
  16. Just heard that Laurel will be hosting some team from Mobile tonight. Apparently Florence forfeited due to covid19. The source is the umpire of a local crew, so it's a pretty good source.
  17. 1st week of region play. SJ @ WC South had trouble stopping NEJ wing-T. That's not good facing a faster more physical WC team. WC 35 SJ 17 Laurel @ FLorence. Laurel only played 1 game, and it was ugly vs Mendenhall, lots of turnovers. Mendenhall still pretty good team though. I think Laurel cleans that up and wins. Laurel 38 Florence 20. Natchez @ Hattiesburg. Natchez offense can be dangerous, but generally not as good on defense. Hattiesburg by 10. Brookhaven @ WJ This will be lot tougher than Wingfield last week. I think the WJ defense will be the difference. WJ 28 Brookhaven 13.
  18. I don't know the number, but it certainly has not been enough.
  19. Wayne County small? That's hard for me to wrap my head around. For the last 20 years, WC has always been bigger than West Jones. Of course the bigger team doesn't always win though. From the earlier results, I expect this to be a good game regardless.
