I meant to say 1st round home game, no one gets a bye. Anyway, I believe all 4 teams, WC WJ Hattiesburg and Laurel, still have a shot at 1st place, with 2 games. WJ - win out, needs Laurel to lose one WC- win out, needs Hattiesburg to lose two Laurel - win out, region champs Hattiesburg - win out, region champs, could also lose to WJ, beat Laurel, but needs WC to beat WJ next week. I don't think there are any scenarios that lead to a 3-way tie for 1st or 2nd place that would go to the tie breakers.

As to the weather at Soso, right now it does not show any rain until 4am Saturday morning. I think we will be good there. I agree with Slick that I think it will come down to turnovers / mistakes. I feel like these are 2 pretty evenly matched teams. WJ may have an advantage in the passing game, but can't have the interceptions that happened last week at Laurel. As bad as that game was, WJ still has everything right in front of them. Win the last 2 games guarantees a 1st round Home game. and if Hattiesburg or WC beats Laurel, then WJ wins the region.

yes indeed, very commendable once again. Well, after the West Jones turnover parade at Laurel last week, that also included double digit false start/offside penalties, there is much trepidation in Soso this week. I think there are only 2 possibilities for how the team responds: 1 - anger, some soul-searching, leading to a laser focused week of preparation, that may bring this group closer together as a team. 2- much of the same that we saw last week, as soon as any adversity strikes early in the game. I think its pretty safe to say that this Hattiesburg defense will be even tougher than Laurel's, so if West is sleepwalking again in the 1st half and gets way behind they will have no chance. With all the mistakes made last week, it's amazing they had the ball with a chance to tie/win at the end of that game.

Concerning the games this Friday night, I was told that Enterprise schools were closed 2 days this week due to a massive Flu outbreak in the community. Any truth to this? and are other schools in the state dealing with a similar situation? As these last region games determine playoff seeding, this could make a HUGE difference in some of the outcomes, if some teams were missing key players.

In addition to the 6 TO, I lost count but there had to be at least 6 false starts and 6 or 7 defensive offsides. You should not be doing that after 7 games. To install discipline you can’t be their buddy on the practice field, maybe in the hall at 1st period, but not at practice.

Laurel 13. WJ 7 WJ can’t find anyone that can catch punts. Dropped passes penalties. Did not play anyone since Madison central. Not ready for prime time.

Problem is there is no one or very few left in Natchez that have any regret for that type of behavior. To them that is the proper response to any dispute. When the adults can’t act civilized the youth will certainly follow that lead.

Excellence again Slick, I like West's defense also matching up well against Florence. But the offense and Special teams have to limit the turnovers. Florence seems to be a well coached, grind it out team, that will capitalize on other team mistakes. As for their vaunted Kick returns, WJ kicker against Natchez put every kick in the end zone but 1, so that will be important tonight. As for last week, the 28 10 result for the Tide was the one that raised my eyebrows. A win's a win, and I guess when winning by 18 is questioned, maybe we have set the standards to high for Picayune, but they certainly have impressed so far.

well done again. After watching WJ against Natchez, cautiously optimistic on this team. I've seen every WJ team in the Pearson era. Old timers (like me) remember the Wayne Graves defenses of the past. Not always the biggest , but fast across the board, attacking like a pack of hyenas. This years version though on the front 7, has some size. Taller and rangy. Anxious to see them starting Oct.14 facing the gauntlet of Florence, Laurel, Hattiesburg, and WC.

EHS beating Quitman impressive, but no one seemed to notice that JDC beat the defending 4A champs Columbia by 19. To me, that makes JDC yet again the favorite in South 3A.

East Central over West Harrison. EC will wear them down eventually. WH will need turnovers to have a shot here. Laurel over Florence. Has Florence every played between the Bricks? If they come out slow and Laurel gets a lead, look out, that place will get to rocking. West Point over Lafayette. Just because it's WP.

Pretty spot on here Slick. It should start to sort it self out some in the next 2 weeks. WJ definitely under the radar after the MC debacle. Looking forward to Friday @Brookhaven and then host Natchez. I will say that last Friday was the 1st time that WJ had their whole starting defense on the field. Wingfield didn't mater or tell us much, but these next 2 games should/will. That is the side of the ball that has always lead the way for WJ when they have been very good and gone very far. We'll see.
