I had a cousin at the old buckatunna elementary when it was in the white building near the river bridge when they consolidated. My mom and aunts went to high school at buckatunna.

Despite all the raw talent, and they are loaded with it, something just doesn’t click between it and the way Vance coaches.

Hattiesburg has peaked under Vance. Since the spring some said this was their best ever team. I still think the 2018 team was better. This one maybe slightly better on defense but that team was much better on offense and better overall. Mostly due to better qb. Everyone knew “hit duece, shut down the offense” for the last 4 years. This year west jones did not have the d line to do it, or they were held up, literally. Pascagoula sometimes forgot how to play. Picayune was stopped by the officials. But now the officials aren’t buying what Hattiesburg is selling and Grenada, who was thinking of coming back and winning this time since before the final buzzer in last years game (like I think they focused on this year about 1 minute after west jones 70 yard run sealed the title game last year) came in focused. They hit Vance all night. The proved what we all knew.

If by “the breaks they had been getting” you mean the officials are not caving to the pressure, crying and name calling from the H’burg coaching staff like they typically do, then yes. They have a crap ton of raw talent. No denying that. Missing their best defensive guy and another really good one has absolutely destroyed the rhythm of the defensive front.

Someone at the game may need to find vott and make sure he doesn’t dive off the upper deck.

This is how they coach. Many are convinced the players are coached to act a way that in conjunction with the coaches crying is designed to help generate flags. If it doesn’t work or also if H’burg themselves are getting flagged for s fraction of the penalties they should be then the verbal abuse at officials gets really bad. There are some who try to refuse to officiate any Hattiesburg games.

If not for the antics and Vance’s crying all the time I Hattiesburg does not beat west jones in 22 or 22. And while they may still win this year it would have been a lot closer.

If he thought his team to be more disciplined he wouldn’t have to complain at the officials so much.

They are 0-5 in championship games.

Because they havnt won a title since 1924. And even then it was not a true state title. It was one of those big conferences that the champ of was considered the best team in the state.

I think he was at Kemper cpu Ty a few years before Shannon. I may be wrong. I was told that basically Milner was in place to be the new nej coach a couple years before it happened. It was basically set up. But when it came time for coaching hire the principle at Nej, carters friend and former high school team mate, was going to offer it. But the jones county good ole boys club intervened.

Only places I could see him “wanting” to go one of them, northeast jones, has a new coach that will likely be there as long as he wants. And the other is Wayne County. But honestly, he didn’t do too well I don’t think in previous stints in larger classifications. And given the crap Heidelberg went through for several years leading up to it sort of being handed to him cause no one else wanted it, and the turnaround he has given them, this just may be the best fit for him. I could see Quitman or meridian reaching out if they need coaches in a year or two.

Heidelberg had 4 seniors on the team last year. 2 started. They had like 6 juniors starting. They also had 4-5 9th graders starting. And finished as runners up to Charleston by 3 in last years champ game. They returned 20 starters off that team. They will bring back 17-18 off this team next year.

They might, maybe, fill up the lower east side. 10k tops.
