  1. Gulfport. Issues with spring practices last time...
  2. One of those teams has already been in trouble over the past 2 years for violating practice rules... Not surprised to see them here at all.
  3. The law they are attempting to pass would change it. They would no longer be required to move. They would get one free transfer as long as they are accepted to the new school district.
  4. If the legislature gets the votes, it’ll be a moot point. Everyone will get one move in HS with no penalty.
  5. We aren't going anywhere. 2nd-3rd largest district in the state and they are building houses like there's no tomorrow. Just want to get back to 6 in Region ASAP because scheduling 7 teams in limited games is a nightmare right now.
  6. I'm aware of the whole ordeal. I'm also aware of both teams that were tied appealing with updated numbers to correct the tie. My comment is directed at the rumor of it becoming every four years instead of every two years.
  7. Hopefully they fix the 7A mess first. 4 years of 7 teams in Region 4 would make the current nightmare even worse.
  8. I'm aware of the rule. I don't see it happening again. Especially considering both schools that ended up tied didn't end up with those enrollment numbers when it was all said and done. It's and absolute nightmare scheduling this mess for the non football sports in 7A for the coast.
  9. Makes sense. I just went and reread it and it actually says first day of new school year when moving due to athletics. Although I'm not really sure how you prove someone moves purely for athletics.
  10. The chances of 2 schools being tied again to give 7A 25 is pretty slim. I'd bet going forward if they are on the bubble they make sure they stay on one side or the other.
  11. Dad "moved" and mom still lives and works in LA. I have found it interesting that the handbook now says the move must be completed by July 1.
  12. I did too but who knows with them. He's already been in trouble with the state twice. I'm sure they are going to say that "they moved"
  13. Hearing it's not going to matter in the next couple of years regardless. Word is the statue that didn't pass this year for transfers will likely pass soon. Will become an arms race. On a side note. Apparently if you bring in the parent from Louisiana as an assistant coach/teacher's assistant you can get away with a little more.
  14. Gulfport has apparently pulled it off with their new QB. Coach posting him all over Facebook while the parents still live in Louisiana.
  15. I didn't conveniently leave it out. The booster clubs and OSAF were stuck footing unpaid bills left by the departure and lack of oversight of some of the coaches. I've sat in many a board meeting and interaction with those organizations and have first hand knowledge of it. Unfortunately not much has changed with the new athletic office. An AD that had never been a head coach of anything is now running a 7A district and is more worried about pacifying and not making waves until retirement over moving the district forward. As far as the invoices, in OS it's all listed in the docket of claims and gets charged to Athletics. Part of the problem is most of these districts don't go any further than the broad overview of the budgets as required by state statue, you never get to see how those budgets are actually divided and broken out.
  16. I think it's funny that you think all of them operate this way. I can tell you it's not separate in OS it all falls under one umbrella. I also know for a fact that OSAF, which is the organization that gives grants in OS, had to buy Track uniforms 2 years ago because their "was no money left in the athletic budget" to do so. I have first hand knowledge of what the booster clubs spend and what they buy, as well as the conversations inside. Every district is different in how they handle it. There was/is a contract with BSN for uniforms and each team was given an allotment for uniforms over 3 years, but not all teams used it because not all needed them replaced. If a uniform is lost/damaged/needs to be replaced, the district isn't paying for it, it falls on the booster club even though it's treated as an asset. But by all means keep telling me that I don't know.
  17. 460k compared to 72 million overall budget. They only spend according to what they take in. If the budget goes over in one year it gets taken out the following year. No state or tax money shifts to it. Most sports get 5-7k max. It's not all it's cracked up to be. The coast especially doesn't invest like the northern schools.
  18. I can tell you for a fact that there are sports in 7A programs on the coast that do not buy uniforms for their players. The booster clubs or the parents are on the hook for them. Most do not use any state money for their athletic program. Take OS for example. The entire athletic budget is less than 1 percent of the total district budget for the year. Outside of football most of the facilities including the ones built within the last 10 years are falling into disrepair.
  19. As long as they are getting their money, they aren't overly concerned. Unless someone files a complaint, even then 80 percent of the time nothing will happen. They've shown that repeatedly over the last several years.
  20. Not really sure where that date comes from. That's not written anywhere in the handbook. There are constantly moving parts. For a "move" it can essentially be done anytime before the first game.
  21. It'll depend on if the state tries to crack down. They want to get every dollar they can get from everywhere.
  22. One of the main issues most of the higher class schools run into (6A/7A), when you play at the Jackson area schools there better be no doubt, because if it's a close game the umpires will help them all they can.
  23. I heard most of the athletic department thought King was getting that job before it was announced.
  24. All of the 7A schools on the coast and most of the 5A/6A are setup that way. Would've loved to have an experienced AD hired, instead of someone's buddy that had never even been a head coach.
  25. Probably OS. They will stream as long as they are in. They pay the state to be able to do it.
