I guess they could but they still aren't receiving money from the state, it would just be a way for a business to send money and get tax credits.

I just read through that entire thing and I must be missing something. That's a tax credit bill that allows a business, industry, etc to donate and claim tax credits to 501 c 3 organizations that provide for under priveleged children.

I haven't heard of anyone complaining about the vote/release. Most the time it doesn't even make it to the school board, the release/paperwork is handled lower, or if it does it's lumped in to a mass vote.

Right now for a student to go from the district they live in to another district they have to be released by the school board of the current school and accepted by the new one. The law they are attempting to pass removes the ability of the current school to hold them and limits the reasons the new one can use to not accept. Again the transfer rules are already selectively enforced. We see it on the coast all the time.

In thinking about this. What does it really matter what rules they put in place when they selectively enforce what they have now. Do we really see that changing?

If you have two 7A moving up, then who is moving down? Both Meridian and Murrah and who is the 3rd?

So then playoffs would stay the same or revert to the old way? If more consolidations hit they aren't going to have much of a choice than to rethink the model.

The Senate has passed a lot of the items that were in the bill as separate measures. Including the studies for consolidations and rules for residency. They left out the funding of private so far. I'm sure it will all be brought up again. The MHSAA is likely to stay on the sidelines since they already have a target on their back by several of the legislators.

You mean kinda like the QB for the 7A State champs who was from Louisiana, his dad suddenly had a job and an apartment in the district while his wife still lived and worked in Louisiana? I'd wager a years salary that he either no longer works there or will quit before the end of the school year.

They are but what if they can't? It's a different world than when most of us grew up. Then it becomes well if we do it for this kid, why not this one? It's the modern world of athletics and as a state we are way behind on the curve.

I'm actually hopeful that the legislature is going to adjust some of the retirement return rules so one of them can keep coaching.

I did too, but it's near impossible now. Specialized training several times a week, the amount of homework, on top of games and practice, doesn't leave much time for a job. And again they are being compensated outside of school. The school can't be involved.

Had he not been promoted he would've been offered the OC job at Goula, Gulfport, and possibly others. There are more changes but all of those have been known about for months. (Retirements, relocations, etc)

That's the main issue with NIL that everyone misses... A band member can get NIL money. They aren't being paid to play, they are being paid because they play. Think about a great tuba player at any random school. An instrument company can come and say we want to use you in ads for our instrument and pay you X amount of dollars. Their education is still free they are now being compensated for their time and likeness outside of school.

MS is one of 6 states that doesn't have HS NIL. Two of those are currently reviewing changes to adopt (Colorado and Michigan). It past time to put something on the books when every state around you already has something setup (except Alabama).
