Who are some top teams in fastpitch in each classification?
JagsFan77 replied to WestPride4's topic in Other Sports
Neshoba Central dominates 5A. Newton County was a dominate team for almost 2 decades but others have kinda caught up with them in 4A. North Pike has a really good team every year in recent years. 1A kinda goes in waves. Bogue Chitto and East Webster had runs but I believe East Webster moved to 2A and won it again in the higher classification as well. 3A I believe St Patrick is the team to beat most years. -
You may vote on something but this isn't it. This is a state wide award based on points. If this was some community popularity contest MC would not be advertising it. This was earned on the field. Not by votes. If you think I'm wrong, go ahead and call up MC and ask them. All Sports Award "The scoring system has developed over the years and is based on how each team finishes in each sport. For example, a team receives 30 points for winning a state championship in any respective sport. If the sport relies on a playoff bracket to determine a champion, the runner-up receives 25 points and the teams who were defeated in the semifinal round receive 20 (and so on). Every team that reaches the playoffs, regardless of the team's record, scores points for their school. In a sport determined by indirect competition (like powerlifting or cross country), the first-place team receives 30 points, second place gets 25 (and so on), with the top eight teams receiving points." - from SB Live

Are you under the impression that Madison Central votes on this??

Warren Central 3 Madison Central 0. The line just didn't look good on either side of the ball for MC. I understand it was just one hand touch for the QBs but that was a lot of sacks. Lots of overthrown passes. Vic has to settle down, plant his feet, and follow through. He's got crazy potential. He's just got to find his groove. The defense also gave up more yards in the middle than we're used to seeing. A couple of Warren Central passes were just very well placed. Not much the defense could've done on that other than more QB pressure. MCs biggest asset is usually depth which doesn't usually come into play in a 2 quarter scrimmage. Special teams looked really good though. Zuluaga has gotten stronger. Barney is also out on that defensive line. He'll be a factor when he's back on the lineup.

I think the MC vs West Jones game will be closer. The MC line is very inexperienced. The line didn't look good in the Jamboree vs Warren Central on either side of the ball.

It’s done through Scorebook live now. It was previously done by some other group. Clarion Ledger maybe? I can’t remember. I know it’s always based on a points system. Each classification has its own all sports award. So many points for playoff wins, so many for state championships, etc. It went back and forth between MC and Tupelo for years. Tupelo used to dominate the sports like swim, volleyball, and soccer for a ton of points but others have closed the gap. I believe Ocean Springs won it recently. I have no idea what Brick City is talking about with some community vote. It’s always been a state wide points system for that award.

Meridian (back in the day) Louisville Mendenhall Magee Collins Starkville Stringer Weir Rosedale/West Bolivar Forest Some of these are smaller schools but have had arguably more success than some you mentioned if you go back further.
-
Starkville vs West Point Madison Central vs Brandon Louisville vs Noxubee Oxford vs Lafayette Picayune vs Jeff Davis Theres so many good matchups every year.
-
Its a tough situation he was thrown into. There's going to be 2 decent teams sitting at home when the playoffs roll around. It might not be the toughest region every year, but year in and year out its one of the toughest. Tupelo, Germantown, and even Grenada were all decent teams last year and missed the playoffs.

Pearl used to have that 2 color helmet with the anchor that was pretty cool. But their dark helmet with just the white script Pearl is awful. I'm not at fan of any of the script font helmets. They are one that can be first or worst depending on the game. Meridian is pretty bad. Murrah just doesn't put any money in to their uniforms. The same can be said for most JPS schools. I think the Black and Red at Brandon looks very clean. I think its an easy color combo to make look good. That being said, Clinton and Biloxi don't do as much with it as they could. Oak Grove usually has some good looking uniforms. I'm not really a fan of any of the DeSoto county uniforms that I can think of. Lewisberg is ok I guess.

I’d say yes at the time they played. With a healthy MC lineup it was close with West Jones. The following week, with a healthy lineup, MC whipped Brandon pretty good. That West Jones defense had some VERY good athletes.
-
That was probably the best team MC played last year top to bottom. And West Jones had starters out with Covid. It will be a close game I’d think.
-
No spring practice? Thats very unusual for a school that size.
-
Just like some HEARD these changes would begin next year.
-
Whoever you heard it from that it wasn't brought to the coaches was misinformed.
-
Good luck to them. Its always exciting to see Mississippi teams getting national exposure.

Do you really think the coaches that were in the meetings and voted on this care 1 little tiny bit how much money the MHSAA makes? The coaches who voted dont make 1 cent off of this. Everyone thinks this was some backroom decision by the MHSAA execs... It was not. It was the coaches, that were voted for by other coaches, who decided this. Every single coach from every single school in every single region can nominate and vote on who is at the table for all of these decisions. They do it every single summer. Quit making it out to be some conspiracy for a money grab. Thats not how these decisions are made.

Petal, South Panola, Pascagoula, Grenada, and Pearl might all be 6A instead of 7A. I'd think they'd possibly benefit more than most.

Reclassification Could Occur As Soon as This Fall (22-23)

Other than 7A.. what classification would you think will be more watered down because of this? Would the old 5A (new 6A) be watered down by adding South Panola, Petal, and Pearl into it? And by "watered down", do you really mean more evenly matched? Sometimes the best team in the state might be a 7A team, maybe a 6A team, maybe a 5A team.. and there's no way to really say because we don't have an overall championship game. The state championship has always just been the champion of just their own division. That won't change with 7 classes, 6 classes, 3 classes, or 20 classes. Thats what rankings are for. And there's multiples of those, so pick whichever has your team higher. If they don't play its all speculation no matter how many classifications (unless its just 1 classification). Right now in 6A, you have teams playing teams that are an entire 5A school's worth of kids larger than them in the same class.. Some of you say it doesn't matter but that's probably just because its not YOUR school that's playing teams almost twice the size in the same division. Most everyone complaining is just looking out for the own interests. Apparently at the meetings there were enough good points made that the vote passed. Instead of whining about it, figure out how to deal with it, because its happening. No amount of bickering is going to change that at this point. We are not like any other state. Accept it and get on with your life. -

Read this on another site but it's quite eye opening. "Interesting fact based on the last classification numbers: There's a gap of 860 kids between the largest school in 6A and the smallest school in 6A.. There's also a gap of 860 kids between the smallest school in 6A and the largest school in 1A." -
The soccer board several years back was one of the most active. Many of those posters' kids graduated I guess. Several coaches would come to discuss rules and tournaments as well.

Oh for sure the 3 D1 stadiums are the way to go. But in 1A/2A/3A if its between a mostly empty mud bowl where you can't even run at the Vet or 2 packed crowds at Brandon (or wherever) on turf or playing in , I'm choosing the clean new smaller stadium with turf and a packed crowd. The Vet needs turf if its going to host a championship. It can't handle the wear and tear of 2 games it definitely won't handle 7.

Brandon and Northwest Rankin do as well. I believe it was actually done first at Brandon, then MC, and now Northwest. With the tiered North tailgate area I think MC has the best tailgate setup of the 3. You aren't just looking through other tents to see the game. You can see over the front rows from the higher tiers. And the videoboard at MC is on the opposite side that you can see pretty clearly. I think Northwest needs to move theirs a little further off the field though. Its dangerously close to the endzone. Brandon and Northwest both have MUCH larger press boxes to accommodate a championship though. The pressbox at MC hasn't been changed since they built it in like 96 or so. One of the worst in 6A, in my opinion, other than some of the JPS pressboxes. It needs to be torn down and start from scratch. The whole thing shakes as people walk in front of it in the bleachers.

Geographically it makes sense but I just dont see them putting the championships at a private Baptist college. Other than soccer state being moved to Belhaven for a season I haven't personally seen a private school host another championship. I'd think Brandon, Northwest Rankin, Madison Central, Ridgeland, and Germantown would all have relatively the same size stadium seating wise. Robinson-Hale says it holds 8500 which is the same as Madison Central before they put in tailgating.. I believe MC vs South Panola North State one year had close to 10,000 but a ton of people were standing around the field before they put the tailgating section in. I think It would be about 11,000 now since 2,500 tickets are reserved in the tailgate area. But I think Brandon and Northwest are about the same size. There might be somewhere else I'm forgetting.
