  1. Past hour
  2. This is not rumor. I had a cousin who lived just inside Newton County Schools line. They were sending the child to Sebastopol or Lake.l as I recall. They now live in Pearl River County. Newton County Dchools started cracking down on situations like theirs. They were going to force them to sind the child to Decatur an hour away vs a 10 minute drive school. She worked in Forest at the time. It was just better to drop the child off and drive on to work. Then word came out that 2 districts were consolidating in Newton County. I t will be interesting to see if any kids west of Newton or Decatur end up at Lake when it happens.
  3. I don't see Lauderdale County Schools or Meridian affected at this time. I believe most of these schools they are looking at are in smaller population areas where 2 superintendent offices exist.
  4. Today
  5. Shaping up as a year of transition for Ole Miss and USM with new HC’s. Obviously a different stratosphere with each program. USM trying to establish their identity in the Sunbelt and Ole Miss trying to sustain the recent success of the program. Both could be difficult. I do believe Ole Miss has plenty of talent but the rest of the SEC does as well. And football gods can be very cruel in this league. I can see Ole Miss going 9-3/10-2 if every thing goes correctly. But I can also see 7-5/6-6 if things go South. You just never know. As was mentioned, hopefully for Ole Miss the LSU game does not tarnish the season if it is a loss. But that game is going to be tricky. All the pressure is on Ole Miss win that game. But before that is a test against Louisville in the season opener. That is no gimme. I think Ole Miss is the better team but that doesn’t guarantee a win. State is really a wild card. I do think we have a better team in place but I am not sure how that translates into wins and losses. I am never an advocate for firing coaches as I think a coach deserves 5-6 or even 10 years in place. But in our microwave society of the current time, that is not realistic. So we are coming to the ULM game September 5th. Hopefully we will look good that night and start the season right. Beyond that we will see what happens. USM is kind of a mystery right now. Hard to get a read on the team but hopefully they will have some success this year.
  6. What reliable source does two guys not from NC actually have??
  7. Yesterday
  8. I am not sure how the 6-4/4-6 split happened with Meridian. Hopefully, they can reset that to 5-5 in 2027. Possibly, it was just one of those things that Cheyenne was not able to balance out prior to the 2025 schedule. I know there are a lot of moving parts when you are putting together a football schedule.
  9. I see OM as a playoff contender, how can you not with Chambliss, Lacy, and some of their DL returning? But I don’t think they go 11-1 like they did last year. 9-3, perhaps? The thing that would maybe concern me if I’m an OM fan is that last year’s team was outstanding in close games, and that can be hard to replicate year over year. I think the Kiffin era bore that out as well, his ‘24 team may have been his best one but they fell apart in close games.
  10. Just trying to be even keeled about it. last year they won several games by a one score margin. what if, lets say the D gives up 5.6 more points per game and the O averages roughly 4.7 less points on the board. What you have then is a very competitive SEC team with roughly 4 or 5 losses with no wiggle room vs Vandy, Mizzou or state. And i am already counting louisville as a win. Defenses will be schemed more toward limiting trinidad directly now that he has a body of work. Then I think who wanted pete and not Weiss jr to be the HC? JUst food for thought......
  11. I think you may be underestimating Ole Miss' potential. They have a very good team and may win all of those (not realistically likely, but possible).
  12. D’Iberville lost the 08 champ game to noxubee county.
  13. I think Newton and Newton county schools, not just districts, are considering consolidating. Columbia tried to get east and west Marion to all consolidate with them a few years ago but west and east declined.
  14. Last week
  15. I think the only counties left with more than 2 districts will have to Bolivar and Washington. Bolivar has already consolidated down to 3 Districts. Washington has Washington CIty, Washington County, and Western Line. I want to see the bill to have a better ideal of where we are going. I can see East and West Jasper, RIchton and Perry Central district offices consolidating. I think Newton City and Newton County are already in the works in some form. Scott County and Forest Municipal Districts should go ahead and Consolidate. Marion County and Columbia City should as well. Go ahead and Consolidate Enterprise and Clarke County as well. That's all I can think of district offices in the south.
  16. Lauderdale County is North likely being discussed by the legislature. Those counties with 1A/2A/3A, multiple schools, under performing, shrinking in numbers, and multiple districts.
  17. golding could easily lose to lsu, florida, tex, georgia and oklahoma. that is 5 losses with several other games that will fall between the margins. I'm not sure Lebby can win 5
  18. bet you a quarter if this were to happen that each of these high ranking admin people would not be let go. They would be given souped up new titles so their pay would stay the same.
  19. A lot of State fans will probably make the comparison of OM 2026 and State 2018 (Moorhead’s first year after Mullen). Golding gets to start off with a strong roster, the question becomes what can he do with it. OM has a tougher schedule than they had last year, and you do wonder what happens if they don’t beat LSU in Week 3. How would that team and that staff react to something like that? Not the same exact situation, but I know for a fact that State fans never viewed Moorhead the same after he lost to Mullen in that much hyped Florida game.
  20. Absolutely not, the schools would remain in place. But one singular district could administer the schools and all the duplicated staff could be streamlined. Each school has plenty of students but one district office would allow more money to go into each school. Now in the two District Offices, there are two of everyone starting with the Superintendent and going down the totem pole. But I know that is hot potato nobody wants to touch but at some point money or rather the lack of money is going to dictate that these things will happen. Not advocating closing schools but consolidating districts.
  21. That would have to have some extreme consolidation like they did at starkville.
  22. So you would be in favor of shutting down West Lauderdale, Northeast Lauderdale and Southeast Lauderdale and sending everyone to Meridian?
  23. Mount Olive has 15 total students in their entire upcoming 7th grade class. They only have 22 in the 8th grade class. I don’t know how much longer that school can make it.
  24. It will be fun to watch and see how ole miss progresses during the season with Golding in charge.
  25. You are absolutely correct about district consolidation. There are way too many school districts in the State. Right here in Meridian, you have the city and then Lauderdale County has its own school district. Completely ridiculous. And the County District is so bloated with Administrative positions it is laughable. They have a good track record of creating positions for people when they fail at their post out in one or more of the schools. Combined the two districts have maybe 10-12K students. One school district could easily cover that and the money saved could go into the classroom where it is sorely needed.
  26. SL, I remember talking to a couple of friends that work at MHS and they said he is a great guy and super nice. And I thought to myself later on when the football team was struggling that those are good qualities but they don’t make you a good football coach. I would agree that administration would be the best place for him. Football coaches need to have some junkyard dog in their personalities because nice just doesn’t cut it.
  27. Richland is landlocked by Pearl City Schools, industrial businesses, Florence and McLaurin zones.
  28. Request for homes equals 500.
