So, are you talking for county schools I assume? Or are you expecting for example, Hinds County to have 1 district that manages all schools k-12, city and county?

I think they have a better shot this year than previously. Time will tell.

I was pretty impressed by Mizzou. Simmons is a good player. State was able to stop their run game enough to win. But if they can run the ball on you then they’re going to be hard to stop. Good defense, too.

Not all schools need to be consolidated. But that don’t mean you can’t consolidate the school districts. There should only be 1 school district per county across the whole state.

Im not so sure Diberville gets out of round 1 being a no.2 seed. Probably playing Brandon Petal or Oak Grove in round 1.

just off top of my head in Tippah county also are Blue Mountain high and Ripley which are 6.5 miles apart. In Union county, Myrtle and West union are 9.5 miles apart. And one for the "it'll never happen" category are New Albany and Ingomar which are 6.5 miles apart.

As a native of Northeast MS, they are a section of the state that has resisted consolidation. Falkner and Walnut merging into North Tippah has been a civil war and they are only 8 miles apart with very similar student bodies. I agree there is a lot of school consolidation that "should" take place but local boards often don't want to make the tough calls for political reasons. Some of these small schools are due to being in separate districts and that's always been my bigger issue. Thrasher HS and Booneville HS are 5.5 miles apart but in different districts. Wheeler is 6 miles from Baldwyn but again, different districts. Hatley and Amory are about 5 miles apart as well but different districts. Unless district consolidation happens, there won't be any movement on those fronts. That's just a small sample, but indicative of a larger issue.

D'Iberville is no surprise to most Coast people imo. St Martin is improved but really played only smaller schools with lesser talent. Schedule is in their favor in order of district play as hardest opponents will be later in season. Just don't let their hype train fool you. they'll still only be #3 seed at best on get stomped first round. D'Iberville should contend but end up #2 hosting. Should win round 1 but then done. Anything less will signal changes coming.

agreed but the game Friday sure brought back some of that fire. I have had the chance to go watch my Grandson once this year because many of you know my wife is battling cancer again. But I watch every game I can and Friday those kids competed their tails off. Another thing at the end of the game Lampley showed he was paying attention and knows how to manage the clock when a self admitted mistake by WJ coach almost let WC at least tie the game up. So yes be excited and back these kids up!!!

Simmons' earlier loss to Leflore County has made the race much more open than it appeared at the start of the season. With the playoff picture wide open, here are four teams that could have what it takes to earn that spot: 1. Simmons (3-1) Simmons has been dominant as usual through 3 out of their first 4 games to start the season. However, they suffered a huge 14-6 loss to Leflore County in week two of the season. Will they slip up again, or will they get a potential rematch with the Tigers in Starkville? 2. Nanih Waiya (4-1) Nanih Waiya has had an offensive explosion to start the season averaging more than 40 points per game with a high powered pass game. Their defense has struggled though, giving up 33 points per game over this time frame. They are the favorite in their region and are capable of winning out through the regular season, but do they have what it takes to dethrone Simmons as the defending south champion? 3. Stringer (3-2) Stringer started the season 0-2 against two teams that are a combined 8-2 through five games. The Red Devils are now on a 3 game win streak and have outscored opponents 128-31 over this time frame. They will host the struggling 0-5 Tartars of Taylorsville on Friday night; a team they have not beat since 1989. Will this finally be the year they overcome the green and gold and compete for the South, or will they continue to compromise with mediocracy? 4. Lumberton (1-3) Don't let the Panthers 1-3 record fool you. All losses have been competitive against much larger schools. The team has an extremely talented QB and other weapons around him. Stringer defeated Lumberton by a large margin last season at home, but the Red Devils will have to travel to “The Pit” this season. Can Lumberton pay back Stringer’s gashing they gave them last season and win Region 8, or will they continue to slide?

The pipeline hasn't dried up we have a senior rb who had about 3,000 yards last year and 2 or 3 more good ones. Oline is just getting blown up at line of scrimmage because the defenses are bringing the heat every play with 8 or 9 in the box plus our qbs are green behind the ears that doesn't help. The thing I know that would be different with Dodd is this team would be way more disciplined and play more as a team plus he would be calling the offense and making adjustments. We are having a down year because we are getting killed in trenches that's why everyone is saying we need to adjust to it instead of doing the same old thing over and over that doesn't work.

2-3 would be a surprise for Picayune had it been a cupcake non-region schedule. It wasn’t; however, that doesn’t excuse Picayune’s performance in their losses. I think if Picayune was sitting 2-3 right now with 3 heartbreaking style losses where the losses would have been close, you wouldn’t be saying it was a surprise. Remember Picayune had 3 regular season losses when they won the 1986 state title and also got shut out by Moss Point in the regular season. In the grand scheme of things 3 losses isn’t that big of a deal in non-region play. The main concerns with that are if you continued to improve from game to game.

I’ve watched the extended highlights of OM-Florida. What would concern me deeply is that everything Florida did was at the line of scrimmage. Either running the ball or short passes. And they ripped OM to shreds. OM really needs Lacy back healthy too because I’m not sure how sustainable it is to just count on Chambliss to save you every time. Yesterday was the first clear example of where that can go wrong. Now the good thing for OM is they get a bye and then a couple of games they’ll be clear favorites in. But they’re got a lot to fix before they go to Texas in a month. And Vandy and Mizzou aren’t just terrible, so they better get that defense playing better pretty soon.
