In this scenario I believe Region 4 higher seed would host this year. Region 3 would've hosted south state last year had Laurel been a higher seed than Picayune.

You are correct. South state playoffs will run thru Picayune as long as they keep winning

Correct.

If Ocean Springs finishes as the #1 seed in Region 4, they will have homefield thru the playoffs. Brandon had it last season. I know they played OG for south state, but they were still going to have it had Ocean Springs beaten OG. In 5a and 6a Regions 2 and 4  top seeds have homefield advantage all the way thru the playoffs this season.

I always get confused by this. For North/South state the rules say the HIGHER region will host if teams are equally seeded. Higher region means higher number

Yes it confuses me too.  Sorry for any confusion there.  I know that the LOWER/HIGHER thing flip-flops every year.  I do know that the north half teams will be the designated home teams for the state championship games this year since the south half teams were the designated home teams last year.

Last season, Picayune hosted Laurel for South State only because Laurel upset West Jones in round 2 of the playoffs. Had West Jones won, Picayune would have traveled there. And maroon, you may recall 2yrs ago Pascagoula was the 1 seed and hosted West Jones for south state. Both were 1 seeds that season. Goula upset yall on a saturday morning/afternoon to win the region.

It was probably a fluke but looked like in the Pascagoula game on one of the kick-offs, the kicker tried to place it the back corner and missed it and sent it out of bounds. Every time before and after that, he just kicked it straight and deep. The kid is good enough to sky it high and pin you inside the -10 as well. He is one of the better kickers I have seen.

i see, thanks. impressive kicker.

No matter how much I understand it now I’ll have to look it up again next year. It’s like clockwork.

Dub, remember it like this odd number year odd number region host. Even number year even number region host.

You don’t have to remind me about that Pascagoula game.  The coolest place in that stadium is underneath it around the open island concession stand.  I fried like some KFC original recipe in a pressure cooker.

How good is Gulfport? I see their only lost is to picayune and they seem to be playing as good as OS right now.

Gulfport is good on D, but I don't think they can generate enough offense on Ocean Springs. I don't think anyone is giving the Greyhounds defense enough credit.

Has Goula won 3 games since that Saturday morning debacle? That was the perfect storm no pun intended. I don't care if we ever play in War Memorial Stadium again we have had a couple bad losses there.

That was such a weird game.  There was some kind of small storm that came through and apparently they didn’t have power on Friday so the game couldn’t get played and then they moved it to that Saturday at high noon and the only shade was underneath the stadium.  I’m just thankful it was dark and cool under there but frying in the sun in late October isn’t any fun and the outcome of that game wasn’t any fun either.  I’m kind of like you there Big Poppa, I would prefer not to play there again LOL!

The problem OS has and no fault of their own other than scheduling tough comp the first 4 games is the rest of their opponents does not prepare them for Region 3…

I think Clinton and Hattiesburg would be much more difficult for them them now. But that is still weak compared to what OG and Brandon faced early on.

Obviously Brandon and Oak Grove will usually be a tough out for anyone. That's nothing to be ashamed of, since they are usually top 4 or 5 in the state pretty regularly. OS went toe to toe with what everyone bragged was a good OG team last season. If or when they play this season, I'd guess it will be another great game but it won't be a blow out against OG or Brandon. OS is absolutely on their level as they showed last season, leading at the half and losing in a close game. However, to say Hattiesburg or Clinton has improved as if OS hasn't in 8 weeks is silly. Both teams have had two years to beat the Hounds. Clinton had a good effort last season but Hattiesburg is not in their league this year, last year or any year in recent history. OS and D'VILLE have dominated Hattiesburg for a decade or more. The top 4 teams in Region 3 along with Picayune are the only teams beating the top two teams in Region 4 year after year. Hattiesburg is NOT on that list.  Region 3 top four are usually strong teams and while it's frustrating, that doesn't make the top two region 4 teams bad. I think every Region 3 fan would agree, Region 4 is just losing to really good teams. You can't brag how strong the region is and then say the teams that lose to them by one score in a playoff game is weak. Good luck to the Hounds and I'm looking forward to another strong showing. First up.....Gulfport!

Diberville hasnt dominated Hburg for a decade. LOL they have only played twice in their entire history. They 2 times they played they dominated. But not over the past decade.

Twice in 2014-2015, my apologies, and dominated by a total score of 76-20 in those two meetings when they moved into Region 4 for a minute. Lots of talk that they would dominate Region 4 and they didn't. OS twice in last two years and they were dominated by a total score of 78-14. You can compare OS to Brandon, Clinton and OG but not to Hattiesburg is my point. 😂
