The cupboard can't be bare in George County because they are the only school that can take from it and it's getting replenished so yeah everything just circles back to your point there. Prince of Darkness Posted October 13, 2022 Share Posted October 13, 2022 Since Al Jones retired after the 2010 season: 2011 - Steve Jones (1 season) = 4 - 7 = No playoff appearances 2012 - 2015 - John Douglass (4 seasons) = 15 - 29 = No playoff appearances 2016 - 2019 - Matt Caldwell (4 seasons) = 20 - 28 = 2 playoff appearances (2016 & 2019) 2020 - Present - James Ray (2.5 seasons) = 8 - 18 = 1 Playoff appearance (2021) That's 11.5 seasons with a total combined record of 47 - 82 with only 3 playoff appearances. All four of these coaches are not Hall of Fame guys, but they all have won at other places. I have heard that GC is starting 10 or 11 sophomores on Friday night. That may have something to do with the troubles this year. Also, they have been in almost every game. Four of their losses are by a TD or less. Young teams tend to find a way to lose those close games & veteran teams tend to find a way to win close games. Looks like they will at best finish 2 - 8 this season. Both sides of the lines are not very good from what I have seen. Skill positions do not appear to be a problem, it is keeping the QB upright and being able to stop people, which they have shown they cannot do very well. How does George County get back to doing what they did when Al Jones was their coach? If they can get that figured out, I think you'll have a juggernaut of a program that they were used to around there again. I remember when Picayune used to play George County back in the day and that was always a slobberknocker of a game. I'd like to see that George County team again.
