Slick 5A Primo Ten Rankings Week 3

A few big games this season but everything so far has gone pretty much like you think it would.

Can anyone pull off the miracle upset ?

1. Picayune- If the schedule was a interstate the Tide would be in the right lane with the cruise and steering assist on while reading MST.

Host #2 East Central- I think this game will be kind of  like beating up your little brother. You don’t really want to hurt him.

2. East Central- Y’all did good holding this spot but reality is coming after the bus ride this week.  It’s time to bend the knee.

@Picayune- I think if they can hold Picayune under forty points you go back to Hurley and lick your wounds without being devastated.

3. West Jones- definitely on the rise. The Mustang defense ripped Natchez last Friday.

@South Jones- if I know Pierson he won’t play his starters but a series or two . The trail of tears continues for Coach Breland.

4. Gautier- Yes they are winning but is that muscle or fat they are putting on from feeding on sweet pastries.

host West Harrison. Another slice of angel food cake

5. Wayne County- I thought about moving them over West Point but concluded that the win over Florence was better than the win over New Hope.

@Brookhaven- on paper Wayne should dominate but Ol Brook is the kind of place if you take it for granted it won’t turn out good. Brookhaven is a poor man’s Pascagoula.

6. West Point- Tuning up and getting swole for the playoffs.

Host Cleveland Central They have hung tough with everyone lately but this is a fight they should stay down in. Best they can do is have something left for the rest of the way.

7. Callaway - They continue to win but are they simply one of the best of the worst.

@Vicksburg. This goes for both teams. Dominate in this game and I will start to take you serious.

8. Florence - They put on new goggles after last Friday and it revealed the meat grinder district they are in.

host Hattiesburg. Don’t want to say this is a must win but I think it is. Lose and every Friday will be a elimination game the rest of the way. This game will tell me where the Tigers stand too.

9.Ridgeland - They have been eating pastries too. But this week……

@ Neshoba Central. These two don’t like each other while going a long way in determining playoff seeding and pecking order. Ridgeland is fighting for their place in this poll.

10. Vicksburg- another low key tough team with the screws being tightened as the season goes on.

hosts Callaway. Here’s your chance to prove yourself. This game has similarities to Wayne and Florence last week. Can you take the next step ?

Hey Slick, let me know when you want some Fortenberry's.  It's the least I can do.  These polls have been superb.

well done again.

After watching WJ against Natchez, cautiously optimistic on this team. I've seen every WJ team in the Pearson era.

Old timers (like me) remember the Wayne Graves defenses of the past. Not always the biggest , but fast across the board,

attacking like a pack of hyenas. This years version though on the front 7, has some size. Taller and rangy. Anxious to see

them starting Oct.14 facing the gauntlet of Florence, Laurel, Hattiesburg, and WC.

Can't argue with that, I do believe that the 2 West's will soon occupy your # 2 and #3 spots. I will get admonished for saying this but I believe that West Point will come back and take the North.

Anyone who admonishes that statement has to be a homer at best. There was a sliver of a chance earlier in the season when other teams could have stepped up in the North but nobody could show any promise. Train is rolling now and the bad news for the rest up there is WP will get better.

Ok bud.  I’ll cash those chips sooner or later

You been around all the pine belt teams for as long as I have and I saw the same thing you did. I was saying to myself in the second half of the Brookhaven game this is the kind of defense you can take on the road in the playoffs and win with. The way Pierson toyed with the play calling in the first half only to change the offense up after halftime told me he had been sandbagging. That passing game was lethal until he put it back in the suitcase. Brookhaven could do nothing on offense or defense. So much so I think it demoralized them to the point of getting beat by west twice when Laurel was trying to give them the game. Instead they continued to stink it up.

I just don't see Ridgeland and Vicksburg stacking up too well with the Green Wave, but who knows honestly at this point.  They just don't have a whole lot of competition in 5A north up there do they?  Is there anyone else capable of getting to Hattiesburg from the North that isn't from the Point City?

Neshoba young and inexperienced but is getting better.. hopefully will have a say

Well Neshoba Central has tried, but they have yet to follow through.  I just don't see them following through.  It's got to be someone from region 2 though because everyone else in region 1 isn't very much competition for West Point.  Hopefully Neshoba can get hot and go on a tear come playoff time.  If not, it'll be the same song.
