THURSDAY FINALS

Corinth 29 Caledonia 27 in 2OT / Final

Holmes County Central 50 Forest Hill 20 / Final

Wow!  A double overtime game.  Those are extremely rare in High School Football.  That must have been a good game to see.  Those folks definitely got their money's worth.

From what I understood from the live updates from Corinth Football's TWTR account last nite:

14-14 at end of regulation

21-21 at end of first OT

Corinth scored on first possession of 20T and went for 2 before it was required (29-21 now)

Caledonia then scored on their possession of 2OT and their conversion play was no good (Final 29-27 Corinth)

Back on Oct. 17, 2014 we played George County and won the game 63-62.  I forget how many overtimes there were maybe like 7 or 8, but Dodd was content to kick the PAT all night.  George County decided to go for two to end the game and they got stopped.  I have a feeling the OT rules probably changed sometime after that.

Man that sounds like a wild roller coaster.

The only HS game I coached or saw in OT was back in 2003 when I coached at Central Hinds in the MAIS.  Game was vs Manchester from Yazoo City.  Back then possession began on the 10 yard line.

Overtime started 7-7 and we had ball first and kicked a FG.  On 4th and Goal from the 3 on Manchester's possession, they ran a QB bootleg, the QB was hit at the 2 and fumbled forward into the end zone.  By rule, only he could recover his own fumble, when it's fumbled forward, but the MA guard fell on it and the crew gave MA the TD and the win, 13-10.  An awful feeling that nite.

Yes!  I was fortunate enough to be there as an assistant while I attended MC for two very good years.  A runner-up finish in 03 ending 8-4 with a two point playoff lost at Oak Forest (LA) in 03 and an 8-4 year as division champ with another playoff loss at home to OFA in 04.  Coach Granberry and Coach Barrett were very good to me.
