Slick 5A Primo Ten Rankings Week 2

Last Friday some fell off the cliff into the darkness while some got a grip, pulled their selves upon the cliff and seen what the landscape looks like from above.

Laurel is descending with their coaching staff. Anyone objectively paying attention could see it coming. They haven’t hit rock bottom yet but it’s fast approaching. One liners are welcome this week if y’all can lift that rock you are hiding under.

West Harrison was unmasked and I couldn’t leave them in over any of these other teams.

1. Picayune - do y’all ever feel the weight of that crown y’all have on and are y’all ever going to run out of great tailbacks ?

@Vancleave- just start the JV . There is no need for the varsity to have contact.

2.  East Central - keep the seat warm for West Jones.  Depth and defense are glaring holes but you are winning.

Host PRC - Bring a thermos of Colombian coffee and a bottle of no doze. Probably running clock at some point.

3. West Jones - I was seriously impressed the other night night in Brookhaven. Their defense is big,  rugged and dominating. Their QB can throw the football really well and their oline was pushing some big cornfeds around. Eye test they are clearly number two.

Hosts Natchez. It’s easy to see how that will turn out.

4. Gautier - I feel like they are too high. Their defense is suspect
@ Long Beach   Just a big Krispy Creme after a ride down the coast.

5. Florence- They have won their way to this spot. You beat a team with battered wife syndrome in Laurel but you get credit for it.

@ # 7 Wayne County . This won’t be like playing Jim Hill or @ Magee. Wayne County is a battled tested  deep team wit a couple of scars.  Their is a lot of buzz about this game already in the county. You are walking into a hornet’s nest. Let’s see what you got.

6. West Point - They thumped Lafayette like a good team should have but how much of a challenge is Lafayette ? Speaking of Laffy, talking about a team falling off the cliff.

@ New Hope. The West Point I have always seen will roll a team like New Hope.

7. Wayne County _ almost made Coach Breland cry last Friday  He didn’t even get mad all game. Like a pit on a chain. That’s why I just moved them up in conjunction with the drop outs.

Host #5 Florence . No way I’m picking against the War Eagles. We are coming back to our stadium after two weeks against a team that….may be good. The old Wayne  County would have had these pretenders cranking the bus by halftime. You want to be great ? This is the first step. One thing you cant say is that you never had the chance.

8. Calloway - They have beat some people and are undefeated. Beyond that , I know nothing.

Host- Jim Hill elementary so they should stay undefeated.

9. Ridgeland - Defense can’t hold up in a low scoring game. I feel like their defense is better than Vancleave’s so I put them here.

Host Wilkinson County- This is basically a pack of Cinnamon rolls so  they should feel better after Friday.

10. Vancleave - By those scores they don’t have the defense for 5A but

could pull off a miracle against a couple teams just above them. Enjoy this week. You’re going to kicked back off the cliff.

Hosts Picayune. Good night sweet prince.

Enjoyed the post and the poll Slick.  Always a good read.  The one you got and the one you give.  As to Florence at WC.  A defining moment is in the cards for each of these two in Waynesboro Friday night.

To all my old Maroon tide buddies. Roll!  It’s what y’all do. Impressive once again.

A couple of remarks to your very welcome column:

1) We'll know about East Central's legitimacy in a week and a half.  I suspect a rude awakening from their dream sleep of a schedule so far.

2) This is the best defense Gautier has fielded in some years but that's a relative point and I'm unsure what it means in a highly competitive sense.

@slicklizardI don't know how you do it.  Your writing just keeps getting better and better.  You're going to need a bigger tip jar LOL!  Great job!

Instead of a tip jar I will set up a gosausageme account at Fortenberrys and I will just swing by and get the bounty. I just had an epiphany. Why not have a business or food establishment sponsor it each week The only fee would be they had to feed me one meal or something else, free gas they could sponsor me to go to a game of the week.  IDK just throwing stuff out there but

Slicks 5A Fortenberry Primo 10 ranking, Slicks 5A Cooley Hamburger’s Backstreet top 10, Slicks 5A Pilot Travel Center rolling top 10 Rankings,

Slicks 5A Popeyes top ten piece rankings. Just throwing it out there.

I’ve got them in that spot for a reason. It’s true they have the potential but they always do. Then as the season goes on their defense like wears down .They start giving up. more and more points until it’s finally just their QB running all over the place trying to keep up. Winning games 44- 28, 38-30 or similar. That’s unsustainable in the playoffs. You will play someone that will shut your offense down and if you are sitting there with that defense you going home. At South state last season Picayune offense scored a couple of times late to come from behind but it was that defense that stepped it up and put a stop to high octane Laurel. Defense. You have to have it.
They are in position to rise up with the cream rapidly or tumble back down that hill rapidly too. Like you said we will see.

There used to be a guy that posted on here from Gautier . He had something to do with media at the school or something similar.  I met him one time at a playoff game. Good dude.
