Arizona’s QB has some talent but is pretty reckless.

State should be up by more than 8 right now but it hasn’t all been bad. Leach has shown a willingness to run it in both of the first two games that we haven’t seen very often. The passing game hasn’t really gotten in sync but Rogers isn’t playing poorly to this point. Defensively they’ve been relatively OK.

Would feel a lot better with a two TD lead if not more. I feel pretty certain State is the better team but they are kinda letting Arizona hang around.

State seemed to dominate the first half, but the score doesn't show it.

I think State will run away with this in the second half.

Good solid win. Still a work in progress but I like the way the team is playing. Defense was lights out after the first drive of the game.

Offense was decent but some costly turnovers hurt.

Special teams after the two missed XP’s was very good.

A lot to like here but still a lot to improve upon.

Good win and Go Dawgs!!!

At the end of the day, it’s a three TD road win, against another P5 team, in a weird road environment 1,500 miles away, and you probably win by 30-40 if not for some self inflicted wounds. You also covered the spread comfortably. I can’t complain too much. I don’t think Arizona is very good but they’re not 1-11 bad like last year. De Laura is like a dang roulette wheel, who the heck knows what you’re gonna see from play to play.

Huge game in Baton Rouge next weekend. I don’t think it’s a must win for State, but if you do win then you are potentially setting up to have a really nice year. And it’s absolutely a winnable game for State, which has not been the case often in that stadium.

Very big game that is winnable but will still be a great challenge.
Under Leach we have had some success on the road so hopefully the environment will not to be too problematic.
Definitely need to clean up the turnovers. That will be a big key for us to win in Baton Rouge.
As you noted 83, Arizona is better than 1-11 but not yet a very good team. We just overmatched them across the board.
Enjoyed the late night victory.

That is absolutely crazy ridiculous stupid.

Nebraska is going to continue to fall. Do they not realize that coaching continuity is a must for a program like theirs is today.

Patience has gone completely with fan bases and administrations around the country.

Nebraska is in far worse shape than Tennessee these days.

I’m usually with you on these things but Frost has been a disaster from the jump and now it’s Year 5 and they were going nowhere. He’s been there since 2018 and never been better than 5-7. They’ve shown more patience with him than almost anyone else would’ve, most likely due to him being a former player there.

Am I crazy for thinking Dan Mullen at Nebraska would be a perfect fit?

I agree 83, Frost was getting fired this year unless he pulled out 6 wins, maybe needed 7 wins to save his job. As soon as I saw them lose to Georgia Southern, I new he was gone this year... I figured they'd wait until towards the end of the season to save money, but whatever.

Nebraska definitely gets a (deserved) bad rap for firing Frank Solich and Bo Pelini too quickly.

Mullen would be an interesting hire at Nebraska.

Mullen would be a good fit there. Nebraska IMO completely messed up by moving from the B12 to the B10. They were a B12 program. It is a terrible match and they have suffered from it.
I know today with the B12 just about dissolved they are where they are going to be going forward.
It is just hard to envision Nebraska ever being the powerhouse they were for 50+ years. Good possibly but just don’t see them being in the upper echelon again.

It’s obvious that State and Ole Miss aren’t getting much respect in the polls, State probably based off the times they’ve played and OM based on the competition level.

Kentucky and Arkansas at 9 and 10 while Ole Miss is 21 and State is unranked is way too big of a gap. I view each of those teams very very similarly.

State will have its chance for a big win on a big stage this weekend, my guess is they are probably ranked if they win in Baton Rouge. Ole Miss will have to wait a couple of weeks until the Kentucky game for their first potential big win.

Going back to the Frost situation. I did not realize he was in his fifth season at Nebraska. His tenure there reminds me of Ben Howland. Excellent coach who recruited well but could not get over the hump in close games. I think I saw where his record in one score games was like 2-22 or something along that line.
If he was 12-12 in those games, he probably still has a job.

Howland did the same at State. We lost so many close games that if he had been just .500 in those games, we would have been in at least a couple of more NCAA tournaments and he would still be coaching at State.

Winning close games is the toughest climb for a coach to get over. Stansbury and going back to Coach Williams, our basketball team won more than their share of close games.

Obviously, it is a different dynamic in football, but a couple of close games that go your way can make all the difference in a football season. State saw that very well last year and I believe it will be the case again this year.

I say it pretty much every year, these early polls are fun for fans but pretty much guesswork and too much credit is typically given to the "big name" schools. Also some credit is carryover from last season without much thought to who those teams lost as starters.

I'd wager 3 or 4 current top 10 teams will not finish top 10. Heck, look at Ole Miss and MSU being numbers 3 and 1 in the first CFP poll. Those rankings were more or less justified at the time, but a LOT of football was left to be played. Neither finished top 10 at the end of the season.

The only rankings that really matter is finishing top 4 for the CFP... well, until the expanded playoffs start.

Beyond the top 4 to get into the playoffs, the final polls matter for bragging rights/recruiting/exposure.

Polls before that really don't mean squat.

I started to mention Hugh Freeze but thought surely not... Tim Brando has mentioned Hugh Freeze for the opening with saying Freeze is interested.

Nebraska has done worse and could do worse now than hiring Freeze.
