5A title picture

After the jamborees last night, who are the top contenders in 5A? 
 

My Top 5:

1. Picayune - We know what they are. They’ll be the favorite until proven otherwise. 

2. Laurel - Big and fast. Offensive line is elite. Both quarterbacks can move the offense. 13 is one of the best players with the ball in his hands I’ve seen in a long time. Defense gave up some big plays against a talented Bay Springs offense, but they made a bunch as well. 

3. West Point - Played Brandon to a draw. Not sure about what they return, but I’m hearing they lost a lot on defense. Is that true? 

4. Wayne County - Beat who a lot of people consider the 4A favorite in Alabama pretty handily. QB is gonna play D1 one day. Running backs are excellent. Defense is stacked again. The War Eagles are a serious contender again. 

5. Hattiesburg - Not sure what they did as far as a jamboree, but I know they have a lot of good skill players. Talent alone warrants this ranking.

West Point will be just fine on defense. Secondary needs some work from what I saw but It’s early. I personally think 5a south will come from Laurel or Picayune but WC, WJ, and Hattiesburg will be very competitive and I think it’s gonna be a fun ride to see which one of those teams can knock off Picayune in November.

Yep your right. The Tide has a big target on their backs. It should be a fun ride..

I’m not sure what’s realistic but I do know the last month of the regular season will be tough in 3 5A. Hattiesburg, Laurel, WJ and WC all face each other in the last four weeks. You also have to mention Brookhaven they will be solid especially playing them at home.

In a jamboree setting where the first 11 vs the first 11 depth doesn’t mean that much. Bay Springs is probably the best in 1A for that matter. But I do find it odd that a lot of you are using jamboree results to gauge your opinion on the season. Most of you are smarter than that

Also in Preseason Jamboree most coaches keep play calling basic and try to stay healthy

he does not say it will be interesting to see IF one of these teams will knock Picayune off. instead he says it will be interesting to see WHICH of them WILL do it. like its a done deal.

Thats not what he meant he said he thought 5a south would go through Laurel or Picayune. But it wouldn't wouldn't a shock if the other team take ahold. 

 

Myself personally if the Tigers make it I hope we get the first crack at the Tide.

I don't think Laurel struggled Bay Springs. Both team looked sharp beside a couple of hiccups on both teams.  People forget Bay Springs use be 3A and using to play bigger schools anyway. But on average Bay Springs is really a 2A but can play with the big boys such as 4A or 5A. And state this yeah during Jamboree coaching only run about 3 basic plays.

Thats what a lot of people should do in regards of Enterprise. A jamboree is not indicative of how good a team is.

I don’t have to reword that part at all because I already said I think Picayune or Laurel will come out of the south (my real opinion). You interpreted it the way you wanted to instead of what I actually said. But you’re right , going back and forth about literally one word in a sentence is very boring. They do have a soft landing in region play, but that beginning of region play is brutal. And if they do what they did last season and pull off an early upset they cruise into the playoffs once again.

Deonte, first crack at the tide means HHS is more than likely the no.4 seed. How bout saying you would like a crack at them the Friday after Thanksgiving.
