Mize vs Raleigh

I believe this will be a real close game both teams have a real good rushing attack that will put up points and accumulate yards. If Mize plays well I believe they will pull it out and become Smith County Champs.

Great game. Not a lot of offense, which is what I expected. The officiating was very suspect, but that’s not what determined the outcome of the game. Raleigh did score on a fumble return for a touchdown where the Mize QB was clearly down before the ball came out, but it is what it is. Thats part of the game. I think the biggest thing was, Raleigh had turned the ball over numerous times every game but tonight they had zero turnovers. And defensively they were just too good up front. Kudos to them on their last drive to run out the clock too. Decent chance these teams face again in the postseason.

The 2A South playoffs are going to be an interesting fun one to watch. Looks like on any given night, there’s about 5 potential teams that could advance to state.

I think there are 5 teams in the south that could win it all. All are right there together. Mize, Raleigh, Heidelberg, Bay Springs, and Scott Central

4 of those should be in South Semi's. If Raleigh wins Region they will face Scott Central/Bay Springs loser in Round 2.

Both teams finished with essentially the exact amount of total yards. Mize with 199 yards total offense, while Raleigh finished with 198. Raleigh got a defensive score and special teams score, and that’s all it takes. Fans always obsess about the offense, but it’s usually the other parts of the game that end up being the most important.

Essentially a team loses 3 yards from a neal down. Defense wins .

After seeing another view of the play that resulted in the fumble return for a Touchdown, it was indeed a fumble. So the officials did make the correct call.

The angle they showed on channel 12 I could not tell.

The angle from behind makes it look like the QB was down for a good solid second before the ball popped out. But I saw some random pictures taken during the game that show it clearly from the front angle, and the ball is clearly out of our QB’s hands just before he’s knees touched the ground.

Luck of where the ref is standing sometimes tells the real story.
