MSSportsGuy
What you posted is one of the better ways to keep the "gap" from being too great. I definitely think that it was nothing more than an excuse to increase the number of playoff teams and championship rounds and therefore pocket more money. The alignment you listed would have a large number of 1A and 2A schools but those are getting fewer by the year. Consolidations will keep happening and the number of schools overall will keep decreasing. I will be curious how this 7A works out and if it accomplishes what people hope it will. But as I've said with all the posts, it isn't my decision and my thoughts are simply my own. If the coaches and principals want this, then it's their right to pursue it. JRoss1958
It was also created to satisfy the whining 6A schools who can't compete.
JagsFan77
Do you really think the coaches that were in the meetings and voted on this care 1 little tiny bit how much money the MHSAA makes? The coaches who voted dont make 1 cent off of this. Everyone thinks this was some backroom decision by the MHSAA execs... It was not. It was the coaches, that were voted for by other coaches, who decided this. Every single coach from every single school in every single region can nominate and vote on who is at the table for all of these decisions. They do it every single summer. Quit making it out to be some conspiracy for a money grab. Thats not how these decisions are made.

A proposal from a school is voted on at the district meeting by each school, one vote per school. . If it passes at district level it then goes before the Legislative council made up of representatives from all 8 districts chosen by the schools of that district. If it passes Legislative council it goes to the executive committee. If it passes there then that proposal has passed once. All proposals must pass twice. If the district or legislative council votes against it then the proposal is dead. If the executive committee votes it down then the proposal goes back to legislative council for a possible override vote where 60% is needed. If legislative council overrides executive committee it passes.

This was totally introduced by the MHSAA directors and the only people that got to vote on it was the executive committee. The Legislative committee was never involved or allowed to discuss or vote on it. That's another reason why it was a total sham job by the MHSAA. It never got to the coaches or the district meetings because the MHSAA new it would not pass.

Someone should be complaining about driving from Cleveland(McEvans) to Bay Springs for a basketball game. No way they should be in the south. Yes they may have to drive to Biggersville or Hamilton but that's north Ms for sure.
JagsFan77
Whoever you heard it from that it wasn't brought to the coaches was misinformed. Edited May 9, 2022 by JagsFan77

It was brought before the coaches, AD's and principals/superintendents at the athletic administrators conference in January. In an informal vote it passed overwhelmingly. Was tabled at the February MHSAA meeting( with overwhelming support) until preliminary numbers could be seen. Had numbers for April meeting and it passed. It may be a good thing, it may be bad, that's to be seen. But as JagsFan77 said it wasn't about money.

It passed in February and April (unamousily). The October 2021 numbers were in the AD meeting. The proposal to go with 9-11 numbers passed as well.
