Consolidation in Covington county

I have heard Collins and Mount Olive are consolidating? Can anybody confirm this?

They went thru this a few years ago. All of Mt Olive was opposed in a blowout meeting. There will be a fight in this consolidation.

Motion was designed. The proposal to condemn  a building in Collins and send those kids to Mt Ilive in those grades. I am assuming to Consolidate the high schools at Collins. It was denighed.

Should have read as denighed. That info comes from my Supervisor at work. He doesn't understand why the kids from both schools who are together on weekends mud riding etc and their don't want consolidation. Now not say there was a 3-2 vote against the motion or a lack of second motion to vote on the motion. These school builds will continue to get older and crumbly, unstable, or whatever. Might as well build now before the price goes up.

It’s going to happen eventually. Collins and mount olive facilities are in rough shape. They will never spend the money to update both schools.

Apparently the school board is split. I knew Mt Olive was in bad shape. Probably worse than any Simpson County School building. They might as well build a new elementary school there now for at least K-6th grades.

Mt Olive has 329 K-12th grade Students 

Collins has 813 K-12th grade Students

This is 2021-22 Enrollment Numbers

At some point the State Legislature needs to set a minimum number per District or County with multiple Districts to consolidate.

Mt Olive Attendance Center K-12

Collins Elementary K-4

Carver Middle (Collins) 5-8

Collins High 9-12
