Idk what Prep is looking for (young/older) but my first two phone calls would be to Chambliss at West Point or Woods at SP. Both could retire and double dip and both would command respect from all parties. A 3rd option would be Fair at Lafayette. He’s been Uber successful and to me fits the personality type needed to navigate private school waters. 3 stand up class acts. Just my 2 cents

I still think Prep wants to go younger. They do need to find personality though. Honestly that was part of Turner's downfall. He just didn't fit the landscape. Look at JA's coaches. They hired the best coaches in the state but they haven't been able to fit the private school landscape as well as the public school landscape.

I'm not sure that age is a controlling factor, but it is probably a factor. Rightly or wrongly, the belief at Prep is that Black had beaten the love of the game out of the kids and that Black's scheme didn't best use the type of talent Prep tends to get. Turner was hired to improve the culture and to modernize the scheme. He failed miserably at the first and somewhat succeeded at the second.

This is why my guess is that Prep has probably narrowed its search to John Perry or Sean Harrison. Culture building is Perry's thing. While he hasn't been an MAIS coach (and top level MAIS schools all carry their own unique sets of challenges), he's been very successful and seems like a safe hire who will adapt his scheme to his players. Harrison has done a great job at Heritage. He's younger, he went to JA, he understands the landscape, and he runs a scheme that would work at Prep. I think both would succeed.

JA is a different situation. Pogue is good coach. Ferrell, the offensive coordinator, is not and he is highly disliked by many parents and boosters. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

Woods to Magnolia Heights seems to make more sense. JP wants a culture builder who will run multiple sets in a wide open attack and will allow Brewer to control the defense. I still think it'll either be Sean Harrison or John Perry. They make the most sense IMHO.

I’m no expert, but John Perry & Prep seem like oil & water to me.

Nowadays it's the nature of the business. There are lofty expectations from the community and fanbase, and they tend to go unrealistic at times.  Honestly, Jackson Prep might be better off hiring a coach with some knowledge of the MAIS. Sean Harrison is a home-run hire, with that regard.

Kind of interesting the thing about Ferrell the JA OC. There were regular times I'd be curious why he was insistent on always airing it out when he had Marcus Harris in the backfield.

Easy for Harrison to succeed at Heritage with the studs he had. He hasn’t won everywhere he has been. He needs to make a move while his name is still hot.

Harrison does a good job of preparing underclassmen for starting roles by the time they’re juniors/seniors.  I believe he’s also a very good offensive coach.  He’s had to replace key players each year.  HA has also improved in “finding” area kids that would like to attend HA since he arrived.   No doubt that HA has had some talent for their class since he’s arrived, but he has coached up what he’s had.

Probably because he was injured half the time.

Well you know the funny thing is, they can always hire someone else to coach that other sport. 🙄

Well you know the funny thing is, prep actually cares about their other sports besides football so their not going to strip another sport of their head coach because their football team is hot garbage. Also it was mentioned that they need a culture change in their program. You can’t change the culture with someone who is already there.

Not true. Culture is set by the HC. As an assistant, you can’t overrule the HC on discipline of players, expectations, etc. Once you’re the head hancho then you can call the shots.

Fair enough; even so I don't think assistants would be drastically different than Black or Turner.

Yeah they do need a culture change, back to what it was before Turner. Football team isn’t hot garbage, it just reflected the leadership at the top.

Harrison is staying at Heritage and will be there new headmaster. I look for Prep to promote from within.

If they promote from within, I'd say Brewer is the top odds for that. He has some head coaching experience. Or even Thompson, the OL coach. There was even a rumor going around when they hired Turner that Will Crosby would take over worst comes to worse.

Turner did more for that team in less than a year than Black and the assistants ever did. Turner's team signed a petition to keep him. Never saw that when Black was there, who had much more time to establish real relationships. The culture of Admin is where the problem lives.
