I can also assure you there are a lot of ex-players with very low opinions of him. Most of those were starters in their best seasons under him. No coach says they are only going to stick it out a couple years and then move on. Also, anyone that had a clue understood completely why he moved on and it was not a surprise. As far as ex-players . . . . yep, probably. Just like there are ex-players who don't like Dodd Lee, who is a great coach. I know there are some ex-players that don't like Coach Beech either, but I would still say he is a damn good coach. Again, it is the profession they are in. There is a zero percent chance that coaches are going to make everyone happy regardless of how well they do.

If you want to make everybody happy, go sell ice cream. Everybody's baby is an all-star and should be starting. Even if in the real world, they probably shouldn't even be dressed out to play due to lack of size and athletic ability. That is the nature of the beast. Every parent thinks their kid should be playing and when they aren't they take it out on the coach. And in turn, player also resents the coach. BubbaJ
There are no real problems at East Central. These are Parent-Fueled complaints made by people who are upset that the SCHOOL DISTRICT DECIDED Eric Collins was the best candidate for the job. I previously saw in this conversation where someone said that Eric Collins wasn't well liked at PRC... That couldn't be more wrong honestly. The only people who didn't like Eric Collins at PRC are the same kind of people who will ALWAYS hate on head football coaches for saying "Your child simply isn't good enough to play". Don't sit here and stir up drama about something you have no clue about. If you're going to stir the pot, at least have some sort of basis for your ignorant statements. Good Head Coaches will NEVER allow a kid, or their parent to believe that they are above the team and its well-being. Those kids and parents will be removed, and culture of selflessness will be established. Sadly, this forum is full of a bunch of those parents. That's why rumors like this spread so violently. I'm just sick of seeing good people have their name slandered by a bunch of people on a forum that have absolutely no ides what they're talking about.

HornetHypeEC
You have no idea about the problems at East Central. You are making great assumptions. There is a lot more going on than you know and most of it has nothing to do with disgruntled parents. BubbaJ
Again, unless you're going to bust the door down and just outright say what you're claiming are problems.... don't stir the pot. You're obviously an East Central fan, and should be excited that your team has gone to the playoffs 2 years in a row and has had a great district record in one of the hardest districts in the state. Good to know that I have "No idea", thanks for informing me chief.

HornetHypeEC
Who knows!! I think all of us just assumed it would be one of the Huff guys on staff. I am not sure if this shuts the door on that, but I guess they're looking around. Nobody seems to know what direction the admin wants to go in. Archer
This is in no way an attack on Collins personally but he was a terrible/lazy/typical MS high school football hire. He's a vagrant at this point looking for the next double dipping opportunity and the administration knew he wasn't in any way a long term solution. I wonder if other states recycle coaches (in some cases, bad coaches) as much as Mississippi.

Objectively speaking, it was a critique of his professional tendency to job hop. I've heard heard he's a high character guy, very tough-nosed but high character. RUNNINGMAN67
I'm not defending him. I just don't think you can say he's a terrible hire and call it ,"not an attack of his character". In the same way, you can't give your opinion about the guy and say, "objectively speaking". That would be speaking subjectively. The only way you can really give an evaluation of a coach "objectively" is by looking at wins and losses. Objectively stating, he's had a number of stops along the way. No further pedantic criticism warranted. The bad hire label was attributed to the administration for selecting an aging coach with no interest in long term program building. Let's find something to agree on next time. For starters, assuming that's a Long Beach avatar, how to build a competitive program there. Thoughts?

I honestly do not know if it is possible to build a sustainable, competitive program at Long Beach.
RUNNINGMAN67
Subjectively speaking, I think there are two people that can revive the Long Beach program. Larry Dolan or Mickey D'Angelo. I think either of those two coaches could keep the talent that is coming through the middle school football program at LBHS instead of transferring to a surrounding school to play ball. I think this new guy is a good dude, but he's coming from a very unsuccessful team. Good thing the only way is up!

Ancient bump, but Collins is now the head coach at Pearl River in Louisiana, where we call them “Chalmette North” because they tend to get coaches who have been with us first… you can make a case that he was the greatest head coach in the history of St Bernard Parish for what he did at two different schools… but he was a job-hopper. He left after my senior year, one of the greatest years in school history, for Tupelo after interviewing for Neville the year before. We were lucky to get both of his sons to come through, and his oldest was all-State twice. I liked him, and he raised good kids. EDIT- we found a game against a Louisiana team Edited June 13, 2023 by chalmetteowl
