I think 5-7 for State or 4-8.  6-6 would be a very good start for Lebby.  They really need that Ariz State game on the road, and it will be tough to get it there.

I know this isn’t the predictions thread, but OM needs 11-1 or better period with the talent and schedule they have.

Bunch of trap games for Ole Miss with USCe away at night and Florida also on the road but if Ole Miss wants to take that next step to be considered a legit title contender for the future those are games that needs to be won. Luckily the Florida game is a 11 o’clock kickoff. Going to Death Valley and beating LSU at night, something they haven’t done in awhile, will be another tough one but again it’s a step Ole Miss needs to take.

I’ve got Ole Miss losing to LSU and Georgia I think. But they can lose those two and still make the playoff. The key is can they go 10-0 elsewhere.

NoWammies mentioned it already but those SC and UF games on the road are just tricky enough to make you sweat a little. I think SC moreso than Florida, as I think UF may have phoned it in and may have an interim coach by the time they see OM late in the year. Columbia, SC is a tough place to win though and SC has a history of stealing some big games at home. That game reminds me situationally of OM at Tennessee in 2021 or OM at Auburn last year. OM was able to win both of those games but it was a challenge for sure, I could see this being similar.

Maybe less of a likelihood but certainly not impossible is OM gets caught in another weird game with Arkansas or a weird Egg Bowl and that becomes an issue for them. As we sit here today I think OM wins both of those games and probably without much issue. But historically speaking those are obviously spots where odd things have happened in the past.

I think OM probably beats Oklahoma in Oxford but we do need to see what OU ends up being. If Jackson Arnold is good and they play any kind of defense this year, they’re suddenly a very viable team. I mean they’re preseason number 16 as is so certainly one of the better teams on OM’s schedule.

The last time Ole Miss played South Carolina was the 2009 year that had a lot of hype and was also a night game. Unfortunately that’s the game where Sandstorm started at in Williams-Brice. Hopefully have better luck this year.

I remember that game. On a Thursday night wasn’t it? That 2009 OM team is odd  9-4 and won the Cotton Bowl so definitely can’t say they had a bad year. But they did seem to leave some meat on the bone and didn’t live up to the preseason Top 10 hype at all. Came into Starkville and got absolutely worked by a 5-7 State team, famously.

Sorry - I only see three likely wins for MSU.  Where do you think they get the other two?

Eastern Kentucky, Arizona St., Toledo, UMASS as well as UF and Arkansas in Starkville all comprise winnable games for Miss St. in 2024. I'm not saying there aren't other winnable games on the schedule but these 6 stand out.

OU and UGA at home as well as LSU on the road and maybe even UF could have UM out of the playoff picture in my opinion.  I buy them beating OU at home but dropping the UGA and LSU games. Nothing against UM but it's only a matter of time before Kelly gets it rolling at LSU. Outside of Smart, Kelly may be the most credentialed head coach in the SEC win wise.  Ole Miss may shock the world and have a 1 loss season, but it'll be tough as talented as UM is.
