Enlighten me on Clinton.  How many returning starters from '20?  Players to watch?

If the rain holds off, I'll be in attendance and expect a Clinton victory.

Clinton has eight starters back on offense and six back on defense; they lost their QB who was 6A offensive player of the Year and have converted a WR to replace him. Clinton has generally been ranked in the top five of 6A polls and are considered one of the favorites in 6A.

Great game to watch! My conclusions afterward: OS will be able to score points on just about anyone in the state, but will also struggle to stop anyone. Especially with a smash mouth run game. Also hoping Bray Hubbard is okay. He took some big licks last night but gutted it out! Really tough kid! Hope he can stay healthy for OS because much like us at Goula, without QB1, they are in trouble.

That’s the case for most teams if they lose their starting QB. But yes OS needs to protect that kid if they want to make a deep run

It is, but you would figure most 6A programs (especially ones with almost 2,000 kids in it) would have a fairly serviceable backup. Going to be a fun year!!

It was worth the price of admission.  Hubbard has improved as a thrower but may be one of those brittle players.  The running back, Humphries, has good quickness and will pile up yards this year.

Defensively, they have 6A size but not speed in the context of competing for championships.  They have the best overall staff on the coast and should handle most of the teams in the region.

I agree about the backup -- he looked like a middle school player.  If Hubbard goes down, Pennock would probably move one of their athletes to QB and adjust the offense accordingly.

Brittel? He had a scare last year on a noncontact knee injury. He missed a game and came back leading OS to a 9-1 record, losing to only D'ville who was 10-0. He got dinged last night but came back in after one play and led his team to a double overtime win against a good Clinton team. He tool several big shots last night and is fine.

On top of all that he started as catcher as a sophomore last year in baseball. One of the few positions that demands toughness in baseball.

He is a damn tough kid and the complete opposite of britle.  He does need to learn to get down more and not try to run guys over that out weigh him by 100lbs though.

Glad football is back! Great start!

Maybe he's injury prone then.

Bray Hubbard is definitely a tough player for the position that he plays. He runs the ball over twenty times a game, plus takes the hits on the option pitch. He also stands tall in the pocket, giving extra time to his receivers to break. That O line is back intact and handled a big Clinton D line pretty well. I’d like to think that he doesn’t run as much with a bigger lead and with a good running back behind him. If he stays healthy, look for a lot of offense from the Hounds all year.
