HailState58
Since the 2000 season, George County Football has seen a wide range of success through the leadership of seven different head coaches in Andrew Hickman, Al Jones, Steve Jones, John Douglass, Matt Caldwell, James Ray, and Kelly Causey. From the outstanding run in the early 00's to the below-average-to-slightly-above-average run in the 2010's, and now the current up-and-down state of affairs of the 2020's, many a fan of the Rebel contingent have been scratching their heads wondering what it would take for the program to get back to the double-digit winning seasons of years past. Is it a lack of talent? It would seem not, as George County has been the home of four Dandy Dozen selections (McKinnley Jackson, M.J. Daniels, Marquez "Mojo" Dortch, Deuce Knight) and a host of other JUCO and second level players throughout the past two decades. Perhaps the talent isn't being utilized to the highest level. Is fan involvement mostly toxic rather than helpful? Has defense gotten worse? Is the issue administrative support or a lack thereof? School culture? Does a certain type of coach fit this program better than others? Has George County missed out on home-run hires in the past? One thing is for certain- THE PEOPLE WANT ANSWERS!! HailState58
Quote Also, just a small add as to who I think GC should schedule each season (in no particular order) with a six team non-region schedule in the current class format (no open week): - Greene County (Battle for the Bell) - Stone (Battle of Highway 26) - East Central (Battle of Highway 63) - Vancleave (Battle of Highway 57) - Ocean Springs - Moss Point (Shipyard Bowl) *I would've placed Gautier and Pascagoula in there, but I think that in a normal region placement George County likely plays those two teams anyway. coastball
I have not seen them lately but the past few years it seems best athletes went to offense and defense had the rest to best they could. Seemed locked in on MUST two platoon it and I know there were years where the defense was quite porous.

But what happens from that time to varsity, who knows. They haven't had a really good replacement for Al Jones. That much I know.
slicklizard
The area that encompasses George County school district they should be dressing eighty or more players. Less than that and a coach really has to decide between being competent on just one side of the ball. You can’t win with that in 6A. Look at the requirements to play football versus the minimum test scores for the state Edited 1 hour ago by slicklizard
Bulldogs4
I will always remember 2006. We played GC in the playoffs and no business being even in the game. But we were Meridian and GC did not really know how to win a big game. We kicked a FG late to win 17-14. Next year in 2007, we hosted GC for the South State in Ray Stadium and GC had learned their lesson and took us to the woodshed. They had 30-0 lead in the second half before letting off the gas and we scored a couple of garbage time TD’s to make the score look respectable. Meridian would not lose another game in Ray Stadium for four years after that beatdown. I have always thought George County underachieved over the years as they always seem to have good athletes and big linemen on both sides of the LOS.
