If there’s one game on the schedule that could get people on board with Lebby, it’s that one. Even moreso than an Egg Bowl win, in my opinion. Last year it was 5 and I don’t think it’ll be 5 again. Not with everybody playing an extra conference game this year.

I would agree. On paper, 7 teams are chasing probably 4 slots. At least IMHO. The problem for those 7 teams is that there are a lot of capable teams 8-16 that can wreck their season with an extra loss. It is hard to see any one team finishing with more than 10 wins. 11-1 is going to be very difficult if not impossible. Plus the fact that those 7 teams will beat up on each other in the games they play within themselves.
DrownInEtown
Think Kiffin is playing mind games with this whole buyout deal that OM just filed a lawsuit for? Situations like this need to be addressed soon from the NCAA. If players leave after they just signed a contract, the rev share amount shouldn’t be locked into the University’s cap. The buyout clause wouldn’t be necessary if the allocation could be reversed. Ole Miss could’ve gotten 3-4 more players with that $$
pancho
Kiffin is playing with everyone. He cares not what anyone else thinks.
Bulldogs4
How cool was it that Trinidad & Kamario roomed together at the Manning camp. And have seemingly become good friends. The State-Ole Miss rivalry is always going bitter at times but IMHO something like this helps to soften it some. I am a State alum and life long fan but I am a Trinidad fan. He is fun to watch. Ideally both State and Ole Miss will win each’s fair share games before we play each other. And when the Egg Bowl gets here I most certainly want to win but without any malice. And I can safely say that both State and Ole Miss fans will be pulling for each other when we play LSU this year.
Dawg83
The rivalry has cooled down a lot the last few years, but a lot of that has to do with 1. Kiffin and Leach being on friendly terms and 2. Kiffin absolutely owning State / State’s decline as a program. You’re always one coach away or an improved State away from this thing getting feisty again, lol. rebmus
Kamario and Trinidad are going to be an interesting follow this year. Trinidad showed up and showed out last year when Austin went down. Can he repeat that performance? Defense’s definitely have more tape to study him all offseason, we will see how it goes. Kamario looked like a high upside in the action he saw, I’m interested to see how he’s built on it this offseason. I’d wager we are both happy with QB play this year. I am very curious to see how opposing DC’s try to deal with Chambliss this year. Last year it seemed like nobody knew who he was or how to prepare for him initially, and honestly never really figured it out as the year went on. Every time I watched OM he was just a magician on third down and teams couldn’t get him off the field. Kamario may be the highest upside QB that State has ever had. He’s got first round draft pick potential, no question. The questions for me are can he be precise on the short and intermediate throws (His deep ball is special but can he complete the 8 yard throws on 3rd and 5 reliably?), can he be smart about how he utilizes the run game, and most importantly can State’s OL keep him from running for his life all season? I’m genuinely very excited about Kamario but State has to be drastically improved on both sides of the LOS for it to matter. I think Kamario will put up some highlight reel moments this year, I just hope they’re not in garbage time with State down 2-3 scores like last year’a Egg Bowl. Dawg83 Posted yesterday at 09:25 PM Share Posted yesterday at 09:25 PM (edited) Shoot your shot, let’s do official predictions. Will be fun to revisit in a few months. State - I’m prepared to be dead wrong, but I think this is a 7-5 team. I think they go 3-1 on both September and November and steal a game from someone in October. I don’t think they’ll win at Texas so that would mean I have them upsetting either Bama, LSU, or Oklahoma. Homer pick? Very possible! But I’m a big believer in Kamario Taylor and believe they’ll be improved enough on both sides of the LOS to get the job done in a few key games. Ole Miss - tough team for me to read. I don’t think it’s ridiculous to make a case for this team getting back to the Playoff or going 7-5. I am going to split the difference and say 8-4. Just believe this is a very tough schedule and I’m not totally bought in on the idea that they won’t skip a beat in the post-Kiffin era. This team gives me major 2018 State vibes for whatever reason. Strong roster and I think they’ll beat some good teams. But coaching changes are such a crap shoot, even with this situation where there’s reason for continued optimism. USM - 8-4. I like the way their schedule sets up and am a believer in Blake Anderson. SEC Champ - I have Oklahoma over UGA in Atlanta. National Championship - Ohio State over Oklahoma. Bulldogs4
State is capable of a 6-6/7-5 type season provided Kamario stays healthy and we can win some of these 50-50 games and then beat a team or two this year that we lost to last year. Ole Miss, I agree can be a 10-2 playoff team or if they stub their toe things could unravel and they could be 7-5. The coaching change does make a difference although Golding already being there helps immensely. There is a lot of pressure when expectations are so high. And as good as Chambliss was last year, I can see him maybe not matching that this year. Defenses will be more amped up to stop him and it sometimes tough to sustain that kind of success two years in a row. No question that Ole Miss has plenty of talent and the team could very well match last year’s success. But SEC football is quirky and slope can get slippery when things don’t go right. I am not quite as optimistic about USM record wise but I do like Blake Anderson. But they have 75 new players on the squad and I think they are going to lose a few games because of the lack of continuity. If they can hang on to him and create some stability then the future looks bright going forward.
