This new power point system that the MAIS is using is a flat joke

MHSAA tried to let play up but it got voted down by the council. Schools like St Stanislaus and OLA have a factor figured in because of being a parochial school. The rest have a 20 mile radius imposed upon them. They can't have kids living outside the radius to attend school.

They can have kids living outside attend, they just have to follow the transfer rules, or start there in 9th grade so it will be their "home" school.

Unless there are MHSAA employees whose sole job is verification of home addresses for these private school kids, this 20-mile radius thing is a joke. If schools do not hold their own athletes accountable and checkup on them regularly, nobody knows the reality of the 20-mile radius situation when it comes down to where a student is actually living and sleeping every day.

Idk why MHSAA ever began letting private schools crossover into MHSAA domain: but that’s where the problem began. And now nobody has the guts to either police it appropriately or shut it down entirely. In the current environment, private schools should have to sign affidavits stating they’ve verified all team members live within the appropriate radius AND are not being scholarshiped (paid) in any way before the season begins. And any school found in violation of this policy (no matter how big or small the violation) forfeits every win accumulated with the ineligible athlete on the team & forfeits playoff eligibility for 2 years. Enforcing a policy like that is the only way to even begin the attempt to even the playing field. But again - nobody has the guts to man up and implement a no-nonsense policy like this.

SSC, OLA, Resurrection, French Camp, Chamberlain-Hunt, Gulf Coast Military Academy, Jefferson Military Academy, Mercy Cross, St. John, both St. Joe's, St. Aloysius, and Natchez Cathedral were among the founding members of MHSAA and its predecessors. A small handful of other private schools have joined MHSAA since, and you can count their combined MHSAA football championships on one hand.

To my knowledge SSC is the only one that's played for a championship back when Farve was qb. As far as I know those schools have been MHSAA over 50 years. Cathedral, St Joe, and Greenville St Joe left when the 20 mile radius was put in place. Partly because Cathedral and Greenville St Joe couldn't get catholic kids from across the river. TCPS and PCS are the only 2 that have since that have joined.

Marshall Academy and their head football coach have been punished for their actions after their lack of play this past Friday

-Fined $7,500 which will be paid to Washington School
-No home playoff games for 2025 season
-Coach Bunio suspended for the rest of season. Can’t coach any MAIS Sport without showing cause as to why the suspension should be lifted. Fined $1,000 dollars.

Indefinitely suspended from coaching any sport in MAIS.

Dude won't get another HC job anywhere... ever.

You reap what you sow.

This is about more than football. There are lots of sports under the MHSAA banner - including things like volleyball and girls soccer where this would be a huge issue

Yeah. If anything it exposes the lunacy in the MAIS & their 11 championship titles

It’s 9, get it right. Just kidding haha.

7 titles for 11 man football, 2 for 8 man. The only MAIS division that should have 2 championships is the one that includes the Big 4. They need their own because statistically there is such a wide gap in student population between #4 and #5.

Big 4

Rest of 4A

3A

2A

8-Man

Thats it.

The "big 4" just need to bite the bullet and join the MHSAA.

If 7A for MHSAA can include schools with this much variance in student populations:

Desoto 1553

Lewisburg 960

then MAIS doesn’t need a “big 4” title either. MAIS tries too hard to make the $$ people happy - which just dilutes the meaning of competition. I’m sick of systems that coddle. You’re not the best if you don’t beat the best. And MS is not big enough for all that. We’re not Texas.

So you’re saying there should be only one championship in this classification? Regardless of the fact that most of these schools are 2x to 3x smaller than all of the Jackson schools. Sounds fair and reasonable….

Yes.  Or, and hear me out, join the MHSAA and then they can be in districts of similar size and compete for legitimate championships instead of these daddy ball hatchet jobs they piece together every few years.
