Because it was the first game of the season, and Noxubee was playing at an extremely high level until injuries depleted them. If the two teams played today, it would be a different outcome. 2014 Bassfield didnt even win its own district. They are not in discussion. 2012, we can talk about. District play does and doesn’t matter as long as you make the playoffs for example: just two years ago mize beat Heidelberg but Heidelberg ended up going to state right? If you think that they’ll beat ‘14 fine but they’re not beating ‘12 that’s for sure. If the classifications were still at 6, 2A and 3A wouldn’t be so wide open. And as far as that being the first game, Heidelberg had the advantage even though they were on the road, Noxubee had to break in a new QB after 4 years and still put up 44. Heidelberg has a good football team but they remind me of that 2015 west Marion team. But if you don’t even win your district, you cannot and will not be considered on of the greatest ever. And to say Heidelbergs competition is weaker is nuts. They have played the 3A favorite, the #1 ranked team in Tennessee who is nationally ranked and only lost by 3 points, and beat a 7A team by 43 points. The competition in 2A is weaker than usual is what I meant and let’s be real, Harrison Central has been in the dumps for a few years and now and it’s looking like it’s gonna get worse.
