if Jans don't fix the weakness and get State back to the NCAA Tournament he will be on the hot seat.

I don’t agree with this at all. State had made one NCAAT appearance in 13 years before Jans and he’s made it in each of his first three seasons. He can survive a bad year or two. And this may be a bad year, early returns are concerning. But I’ve also learned by now to not count him out.

I think it’s fair to question some things on his portal evaluations over the last couple of years. Hubbard may be a one man show this season if the first two games are any indication. The supporting cast has had a very worrisome start to the year.

Hopefully it’s a situation where they just got worked over by a Top 20 team and it’s not as bad as it seems. But boy was tonight hard to watch. Iowa State only made 5 threes and still scored darn near 100 points. And 26 turnovers is a stat you only typically see in situations like when Vic Schaefer’s women’s teams would play a SWAC team in November and beat them by 60. It’s a really bad showing from an SEC team that’s been in the tourney several years in a row.

Only 2 games in. Way toooooo early to wonder about Jan’s’ or this team. Iowa State was a very polished team whereas we were 5 individuals playing street ball. Way too much dribbling, no player movement on offense w/out the ball and passing was nonexistent.
We will get better and no need to panic at all.

Did I say we have only played 2 games?
Epps did not play which definitely affected guard play.
I think we will be fine going forward.

Saw the cleanest 37 mins of play I’ve seen in a long time from Ole Miss. During that stretch we had only 3 turnovers, was outrebounding Memphis by 4 and was shooting 73% from 3. Also only had 10 total fouls with no one in foul trouble. Those last 3 mins got them back in the game though. Gotta clean that up. Was promising that Storr was off but Giffa was able to pick up his slack. Been having excellent guard play the first three games. See you at the Tad Pad Friday night against CSUB for the last game ever before it gets demolished!!

I hope they will let the families of squirrels and raccoons living in the locker room pack up their belongings and move out before they tear down the Tad Pad.

(I like the Pavilion at OM quite a bit as an arena but the Tad Pad was something else lol).

State beat SE LA yesterday with a rather uninspiring performance. They are about to enter a pretty tough stretch of nonconference games over the next month and I’m not really sure what to expect from it. There is a chance they come out on the other side of it with a pretty bad record unless they clean some things up in a major way.

Ultimately at 2-1 things could certainly be worse, but there aren’t many more directional schools on the schedule.

Team seems to be a complete mess. I do think there is plenty of talent. But that is what to be expected in this current era of throwing together a team every year. Most often it will take time to gel. Some times it is faster. But in this case you have only TWO regulars back, maybe three with Warren but he did not really play much last year.

We are going to take our lumps over the next month. You hope that the team does not get discouraged because it is a long season.
But in our microwave society fans have very little patience anymore. They expect results yesterday. We know Jans is a proven coach and he will have this team playing better as the season progresses. Patience will be required and it will eventually be rewarded.

Basketball is a little different from other sports in that it is more prone to being a one year at a time sport and not quite as much about building over time.

That said, in this era sometimes you just whiff on a portal class and that may be what ends up being the case with State. It kinda feels like it’s Josh Hubbard and a bunch of very average, unremarkable players.

The Jans track record speaks for itself though so history says it will get fixed if not later this year then likely by next year.

Man, three games into the season and you have already moved onto next year. Dang, that was quick.

Nobody is moving on. I offered my opinion as to why we have not looked good early but offered an olive branch that patience is needed and that we will be better as the season progresses.

And yes we are only three games in to the season with about 30 more to go.

I do think Kansas State is a quality team, lot of scorers. But yeah, State’s definitely got issues. The game against New Mexico tomorrow night really feels like an early must win for the season, as much as you hate to say that this early. But they are in danger of free falling quickly with this schedule if they don’t get it figured out soon.

No ball movement

No movement with out the ball

Just a poor effort

All the way around

Defense is porous

I spoke too soon

Just as ugly as the Iowa State game

I’m not to the point of turning on Jans but I do think it’s getting fair to question his talent acquisition via the portal and HS recruiting.

He’s been carried by some guys he inherited from Howland (now all gone) and Josh Hubbard. There have not been a bunch of big hits in terms of newcomers over the years.
