You know I ain’t taking that bait. With all the hype a game like this should bring, it’s still a non-district game.
maroontide06
To elaborate on Hightide’s thoughts, both of these teams will probably run the table in both of their respective classifications regardless of the outcome Friday night. @ccbulldoghere’s your matchup of the two best teams South of I-20. Coming from the Kiln it's real bumpy. It needs to be repaved again.
Vott
Wish Hattiesburg open date was this week. I would have been there for sure. This is the overall top game in the state this week
Matt
Should be a good game! OS defense will need their best game so far this season and I’m sure their offense as well. The Tide ground and pound will test the best of defenses! Wish OS had their big DE for this one but they’re 3-0 with others stepping up, so hopefully he’ll be ready for district! Wouldn’t be surprised either way but these OS seniors have figured out ways to win in some big games since 7th grade. I’ll go with OS 21-20. maroontide06
If Picayune continues to improve I like their chances in this one. Biloxi was tough, but to Picayune's credit they play a tough schedule on purpose. I don't think you'll see a blowout in this contest one way or the other, but I do think Picayune has enough horses in the stable to control the time of possession and wear down the Ocean Springs defense. Picayune just needs to operate like a well oiled machine.
coastfootballfanman
I expect this to be a great matchup. Ocean Springs battled a tough team last week in Pascagoula and has another one this week with Picayune. These games definitely make you ready for region and into playoffs. No better way to prepare than a tough non-region schedule. I will hold off on a prediction because I have personal ties with the Greyhounds and I do not want to jinx anything. maroontide06
I feel like Picayune may be going into this contest as a slight underdog. That's fine and I've always thought Picayune plays better when they aren't the clear cut favorite. It's going to take a great 4 quarter effort to beat Ocean Springs, but I think it's a task Picayune is up to completing. Here's some keys to the game for Picayune: 1.) This ain't Christmas. It's not gift giving time. No presents need to be brought to the game, nor do they need to be handed out. 2.) Play smart, disciplined football. Clean up the penalties. Don't play from behind the sticks. 3.) Eat Clock. When the Ocean Springs offense is on the sideline, guess what? They can't score. Have those long patented 7-9 minute Maroon Tide drives and score at the end of them. 4.) Get a few defensive stops. I don't expect Ocean Springs will be handing out presents, so make them bring out the punt team a few times.

I actually see OS as the underdog with a sophomore QB and undersized but scrappy defense against what is always a large and physical Picayune offensive line. A close game should make both teams feel good either way. A win is great but even a close loss in this one could be looked at as a good wake up call going into district play. Coaches and players probably want the win regardless.

Not saying that will happen, but all Picayune needs is 3-4 yards per play. You don't even need the flashy or chunk plays. Leave them for some other game LOL.
maroontide06
Congrats to Ocean Springs and their beautiful OL. I didn’t expect the high scoring affair that this game brought, but I knew Picayune would have to play a near perfect game to beat Ocean Springs beforehand. When Picayune fumbled at the 1 and Ocean Springs threw the 99 yard Touchdown pass the very next play, that was the proverbial nail in the coffin. Picayune played good, just not good enough to beat Ocean Springs.
slicklizard
Ocean Springs is stout with that RB from Gautier. They know how to get him loose with misdirection and screens that look very familiar to me. That coast 6A is a weird dynamic though . Teams that look really good will fall flat in the region a couple of times then get pine belted in the playoffs, Maybe this year is different

Tough game and I agree, never thought there would be that many points scored in this one. Honestly thought Ocean Springs run defense was their strength but we all know Picayune will make everyone look weak in that area! Plenty of good for both teams and also plenty of things on film for coaches to use for coaching points this week! Good luck to the Tide going forward!
