State’s win @ USM took a notch up tonight after the Eagles drubbed App State (who is usually a formidable opponent).

Agree with you 83 that we just need to take care of business with N. Ill. and get out a W and no injuries.

Ole Miss w/Tulane at home. Will not be a cupcake but Ole Miss should be able to win without it being nerve racking. Maybe due for a bit of a letdown after two emotionally and very difficult games.

I listened to OM-Arkansas on two hour the drive home. Seems like OM may have a QB controversy on their hands. Also sounded like their defense was having major issues but came up with one clutch play when they needed it and that was enough.

I need to catch the highlights of Tennessee-Georgia, that sounded like a great game.

Caught the 4th quarter of A&M vs Notre Dame. Great win for the Aggies and I do think you have to take them seriously as an SEC title contender, especially in a year where there is no clear dominant team at the top of the league.

LSU is 3-0 but it’s been a weird 3-0… That Clemson win hasn’t aged tremendously and they have not looked great the last two weeks. Also, I was way wrong about Florida. Thought they would be one of the better teams in the SEC this year and that Lagway was a very good player… Um nope that does not appear to be the case at all.

I agree that Tulane is not a pushover for OM next week. And kind of a trap game spot between two big home SEC games. I could see Tulane hanging for a while (skeptical that they could win though).

Week 4’s slate is pretty meh, if teams handle their business, but Week 5 looks incredible as we sit here tonight. Great national slate of big games and then two huge ones locally too with OM hosting LSU and State hosting Tennessee that week. But gotta get to that point without slipping up, as I referenced earlier.

Still really don't know how good state is compared to the rest of the SEC but the Vols coming in 2 weeks will expose a lot.

The Vols had opportunities to put the game away but Georgia seemed too strong on both sides of the ball when it counted and the kicker choking was bad for the vols too.

Ole miss needs to play better on both sides to put Tulane away and I'm not sure the reb D is near strong against the run as it needs to be but who knows.  Now Chambliss looks better than Simmons

I hate doing the well this team did this against this team, but I will this one time. My verdict is still out on how good of a win last night was because watching us beat an Arkansas team who destroyed Arkansas St who was in a dog fight yesterday with a good Iowa St team gives me hope that maybe Arkansas is actually pretty decent. Their defense is what I thought it would be and I do believe their offense is going to look explosive against everyone they play besides LSU. My biggest gripe on our defense is we gotta have guys to set the edge better. Constantly we’re overpursuing and allowing big runs to the outside. We did somewhat a better job of it in the 2H but still at times got caught doing it. Last week it hurt us allowing McGowan to break off big runs. Secondary having four dropped INT’s is a good reason to gripe as well. Next week against Tulane we’ll be going up against almost an identical type of offense with a talented QB that can hurt you with his arm or legs so hopefully can get things worked out before then.

Who had Mario Craver leading the SEC in receiving yards on their bingo card?

He was always talented at State. Allegedly needed to move further away from his hometown and some bad influences. If he’s got his head on straight he’s an NFL WR.

That said, I don’t think State came away empty handed in the divorce. Thompson has been excellent in what was basically Craver’s role for State a year ago.

Craver played well last night. Last year you could see the potential and this season he has flourished.
At least, State looks competent as a team. Need to take care of business against Northern Illinois. And then that sets up a great opportunity against Tennessee.
Ole Miss has won two tough games against SEC teams. There are no breathers when it comes to winning a SEC Game.
Even though Georgia persevered against Tennessee, I don’t see anyone running the table this year in the conference. In fact, winning 10 games in the regular season is going to be a major accomplishment.
Going to be a lot of unexpected results in the next couple of months.

I do think Arkansas is a quality team but IMHO, Iowa State slept walk through that game yesterday. After an emotional last second win over their arch rival last Saturday, they were due for a major letdown. You could see that happening from a mile away. That is not a good comparison in this particular case. Comparing how teams do against common opponents is a part of evaluating a match up but only one of several factors.
With the transfer portal, I think we will see a lot of inconsistent play from teams during the season.

I think Arkansas has a really fun offense with a dynamic dual threat QB. Amazingly the Bobby Petrino experiment has gone fine so far.

I think they are possibly terrible on defense.

Time will tell. I will actually be in Fayetteville for State vs Arkansas in about 6 weeks and I’m currently expecting that to be a shootout similar to OM vs Arkansas.

Kudos to USM for their impressive win over App State. And I am glad that former State RB Jeffrey Pittman is playing well for USM.

I will always have fond memories of him scoring the winning TD against AZ in 2023 on a well designed screen pass from Rogers in OT. That was the lone highlight of that entire season.

That is something I’ve noticed too . Since the portal has blown up it feels like teams are having more hiccups than usual. Which is strange because the talent at lower level schools are getting funneled to the top programs.

Goes to show how important chemistry and culture is

state better win saturday and enjoy it.  mite not be many more W's

Well we do need to win Saturday simply because it is the next game. Beyond that the schedule is daunting but there does not seem to be a  completely unbeatable team in the SEC this year. Transfer portal and NIL have potentially put a dent in to any team really dominating for an extended time.
State may go 4-8 but if a couple of teams have an off game, State could win a couple of games in the conference. At least it seems to be a possibility now. Again predicated on winning tomorrow first.
