It is very depressing. It also hurts the gate and concessions when visiting teams do not travel. One year at an HHS home game the visiting team brought 14 fans. If you go back and look at the schedule of previous HHS home games you would know who that team is.

HHS travels poorly if they’re going much outside of Hattiesburg or if they’re not expected to win. I’ve been in stadiums before when not even all their own parents show up. I’ve felt bad for the kids. It was sad.

Apparently you didnt see any long road games last season. They traveled very well to Bilox, Terry and Picayune. Thise were the 3 longest trips. Where did you go when they had a poor showing of fans?

I could see Terry being a long road trip but Biloxi and Picayune are within an hour from Hattiesburg. I have been to Hattiesburg games and there were more band members than fans in stands. With any high school football team, if you are good people are going to follow but when you are subpar, players families are about all that are going to be in the stands.

For those lucky enough to experience a Gautier football game, it’s clear that The Swamp offers one of the best fan environments for high school football in the state. With its unique traditions, passionate fanbase, amazing tailgating culture – including the iconic whole alligators roasting on the grill – and thrilling "Air Raid" offense, it’s no wonder that Gautier’s football program continues to thrive under the bright Friday night lights. The energy, the pride, and the community spirit are all part of what makes Gautier football so special – and the sirens blaring after every touchdown are a perfect reminder that when the Gators take the field, they’re a force to be reckoned with.

Uhh, it wasn't luck but yes I've been to Gautier for a football game.  I'm just glad Picayune won that game, and every game they've played there.  As long as you prepare for two opponents when you make the trip there, then you've got nothing to worry about.

Do you happen to moonlight as a writer to describe homes on zillow? This is incredible. LOL

I have been to several Gautier games over the years and honestly do not remember seeing any tailgates or whole alligator roasting going on. I will say fan attendance and support definitely seems to have improved greatly the past few years and having a run of success will do that.

What are the absolutes in life?  Isn't it something like life, death, taxes, and the superb officiating at Gautier?

Happy to say I have not had to witness that. Hattiesburg has been there three times and 2 of those games the fans were leaving after the band performed.

Quite the imagination here, but well written piece of fiction.

Dantzler Stadium in Moss Point was once one of the fiercest territories in Mississippi high school football—a place where visiting teams knew they'd face not only a tough opponent but a roaring, electric crowd that shook the bleachers. Back in the Kevin Fant days, the energy was undeniable, a Friday night force that could rattle even the most seasoned players. Over the years, that fire has dimmed, the once-intimidating atmosphere giving way to quieter nights and fading echoes of past glory. But this year, the spark might just return. With Moss Point's own Mike Collins—one of the city's most beloved and respected figures—serving as honorary captain at kickoff before the Battle of the Cats, the stage is set for a revival. His presence is more than symbolic; it's a call to reignite pride, passion, and that old Dantzler dominance.

Hattiesburg vs Moss Point in the 90s at both places was off the chain. I remember in 1998 Moss Point fans were already tailgating across the street from the HHS campus before school was even dismissed at 230pm.

Indeed, now it is only like that one time a year (Homecoming). Really hoping Moss Point can bring that old-school intensity back to Dantzler Stadium real soon. The tradition runs deep, and it’s time the energy on the field and in the stands rises to match the legacy. They need the right guy in there and the support.

Sorry that's not happening and it's a shame. It used to be quite the challenge to play there with Jerry on the sideline.

You will soon, if you are looking for a new coaches bandwagon to follow, hop on.

I hate to say it, but I do not see Jenkins lasting more than 2 years. It is going to be an uphill battle. Losing the best playmakers off a team that did not win a game is not a great situation to take a 1st HFC position. 8th grade team did well in the D3 ranks last season but if the trend of talent transferring out of Moss Point continues, that talent will not be in a few years. Hopefully the next go round there will be better candidates for Moss Point to choose from.
