2A for 2023

Not gonna lie, pretty excited about 2A this season. Every year for quite a while now, the clear cut favorite has always been determined. For a while everyone knew Taylorsville was basically a shoe-in for the title, and then it was Scott Central. For the first time in a long time, 2A truly will be wide open. I believe it’s gonna be as competitive as it’s been for quite a while. I think the South has 5 teams that will all be very similar in Mize, Bay Springs, Scott Central, Raleigh, and Lake. Maybe even Philadelphia, I’m not sure how much they have returning. If I had to rank the South right now to open the season, it would be:

1) Bay Springs

2) Mize

3) Scott Central

4) Raleigh

5) Lake

This list would no doubt change as the season went along. I have no clue about 2A North… who should be the favorites in the North?

I could be wrong, but isn’t Philadelphia in the North this year in Eupora’s region? North is pretty much wide open as well, but I’d give the nod to Charleston right now. Union should be real good. At least they will be offensively. You’re right 2A is as wide open as it has been in a long time. I’d probably go with…

1. Charleston

2. Calhoun City

3. Eupora

4. Union

5. Philadelphia

2A North

Charleston

Calhoun City

Eupora

Water Valley

Northside

Mize won't be the 2nd best team in 2a South; Raleigh Scott Central Bay Springs Lake Philadelphia Union will be better; Mize lost its two best offensive players from last year; nothing special about Mize; no great speed or athletes; everyone in 2a is lucky Velma Jackson dropped down because they would be the best team in 2A.

Lol. You must have us confused with enteprise. Mize will be better this year than we were last year if that tells you anything. Velma Jackson most definitely would be the 2A favorite if they were still 2A.

Bay Springs and Raleigh will be top 2 in South. Mize, Scott Central, Lake will be next in line.

North has Philadelphia, Union, and Sebastopol in Region 4.

From what I have been told from how they looked this spring, I don’t see Raleigh beating Mize. You just don’t lose as much as Raleigh did and not expect a significant drop off. They lost way too many starters, and the top player in the state. We will know after week 1, but right now I have Raleigh losing 3 games. I do think they win their district.

Bay Springs is still going to be really good. They have a lot of size, and two really good backs. They got a couple players with legit D1 offers. They won’t be as good as they were last year, especially on defense, but I think they will be the favorite early on.

Raleigh could have a significant drop off and still be better than Mize; Raleigh's returning skill layers are better than MIze's; you are hardly the most impartial observer; Mize lost its three best offensive players from last year Brady Sullivan  Trenton Keyes  and Al Garner who kept them in the game against Enterprise.

Someone's fibbing you because these Seniors are the ones that went USM in pee wee. The cup is not bare by any means. If they are ready for Mize then their probably going to win. The 3 losses might be Bay Springs, Newton County, and JDC.

Lol…. IM not the most impartial observer? Holy cow that is RIIIIICCCCCCHHHHH!

We return 3 offensive linemen, have a transfer from a 5A school, and return 8 on defense. This isn’t enterprise. We have athletes.

This Raleigh group of juniors went to USM when they were 7-8 year old rookies and finished 4th place. No Raleigh pee wee team has went to USM since 2016, and those players are gone. They lost south state at JCJC to Scott Central. They beat Quitman in the 3rd/4th place game at USM the next week. Scott Central won it all that year, beat Meridian. That was this past 2022 senior class. I do know the cupboard is not bare. But you don’t lose that many starters without having growing pains. Raleigh will still be good, but they will have growing pains. Especially early in the season. The season after next season could be Raleigh’s year again to win it all. The junior class Raleigh has now has always been the most successful of their current classes.

This group of seniors played North Forest at USM

Maybe in a bowl game, but not in the playoffs. This group of seniors didn’t make the playoffs as pee wee players. Bay springs, Raleigh, and Taylorsville were in a 3 way tie for the playoffs and Raleigh lost the tie breaker shootout game. That was in 2017. They used to play an extra bowl game at USM to make extra money at the gate. One year Mize and Sumrall played in it.

They played North Forest and I was there. I know the cup is not bare. I believe they can handle Mize.

Well I can tell you for a fact it wasn’t for a playoff game. I can post photos for you if you like. I have coached youth football for 10 years. This senior group coming up were pee wee in 2017. They did not make the playoffs. If you don’t believe me ask Otis Seaberry or Jeremy Gavin. They will tell you.

Next years junior class at Raleigh beat me every time we played but I didn’t coach against them when they got to pee wee, I coached against them when they rookies and the midgets. As far as next years 9-12, the junior class is the one from Raleigh that always beat us. The rest of the classes were about 50-50 split. I coached the pee wee age group this season for the first time because my son was pee wee this year. Git Perkins little brother was on Raleigh’s pee wee team this year. Tall lanky kid, pretty good little athlete.

Nice. They should definitely be a contender

They’ll have to replace some guys on defense because they lose 2 of their linebackers and all but 1 guy from starting secondary. Not sure about their DL. My previous statement about their offense is because they return pretty much everyone on that side of the ball and just my opinion but should have the best QB in 2A with Hickmon who will only be a junior. Part of me wants to put them at the top of 2A North but hard to go against Charleston tradition and Calhoun City was a young team last year who should have a much better year. Eupora is going to take a step back with Ty Murphy graduating and not sure what Philadelphia is bringing back so I do think Union wins that region.

All-Time Classic response here !!  Job well done !!

To add on to that, chunky is one of the most up front guys there is when he’s discussing Mize so that was ridiculous to say about him. He never makes them out to be something they’re not.
