Rebel Bert
Something has to change: My proposal: 1 Meridian area officials have to clean house starting with the director 2 All officials should have a 2 year college degree minimum. 3 Officiating Efficiency classes or degree need to be incorporated at junior or senior college level. 4 MHSAA needs to implement Officials Conferences during the summer to get these officials improved at their game. 5 ETC. Chunky6617
You can barely get officials as it is. We are in a major officiating shortage. I followed every game last night and didn’t see anything outlandish officiating wise.
NoWammies
If that happens games are gonna be played on Wed, Thur and Friday due to barely having enough officials.
Old Golfer
There is hardly enough officials now! No young people are getting in it, lack of interest-pay- blame and abuse keeping them out. Instead of gripping join the mhsaa officials and help call games.
Rebel Bert
Ok, then add Coaching and Officiating Fundamentals to Vo Tech Centers with a plan for Interim Officiating for Seniors willing to learn all the sports.

Rebel Bert
The Vo Tech Ideal will pay for itself. Make it a tl2 year program. Seniors can leave school early in Smith or Covington to say call a Volleyball game at Magee vs Mendenhall as an example. Pay them mileage and eats, etc. You build the # of refs this way. Then offer them a job after graduation.

NoWammies
Just checking because you seem to want folks to invest a lot of their time into something they do for extra small amount of cash or retired guys do to get out of the house for a lil while. Hightide
I bet any amount of money the refs we had last night got a good payday. Never seen a game were it was so obvious who the refs wanted to win.

You can't get officials as it is. You surely not gonna get them to have college degrees. Require them to take Efficiency classes? Ok sure. 4. My personal belief is that the MHSAA can do more to prepare what they have but everyone has to take it very serious and they do not. Regardless if yall like the officials or not, there isn't "better" out there. If there is, they not gonna call. They gonna sit in the stands and stay on the message boards and talk. Anyone can do it. I would suggest if you are physically able, please go and try out. They need officials badly. I do not know what they are going to do in the next 10 years because it won't be enough.
