His wife was holding out for the USM job but McNelis did not step down. Missy signed her new contract with ULM last week. She had all intentions of coming back to be the coach at USM but the AD doesn’t want the heat of forcing McNelis out.

Should get a nice list of candidates. Top notch facilities and talent galore.

Northeast Jones will be at Perry Central on 5/16.

South Jones is having an inter squad for its spring game.

No, Holmes is being moved to LB. He’ll still get some carries, but look for him to be more of an impact on the defensive side of the ball this Fall. Great move by the WJ staff. No sense in him only effecting the game every 3rd possession on offense.

Looking forward to seeing how Holmes plays as an every down LB for West Jones. Kid is a stud!

Ryan Milner. From folks I have spoken with, positive changes within the program have already started. It’s going to be interesting to see if he can turn it around there. Talent has never been an issue.

They should finish second in the district this year. Their incoming freshman class is very talented as well. They will have 2-3 from that group starting this year.

Milner is the recommendation to the school board for approval. Milner, Parker, and Rice had formal interviews. There were conversations with Carter but never a formal interview I’m told. He must have said thanks but no thanks before it got there. Nevertheless, looks like Milner will be the guy.

Interviews took place earlier this week. 4 candidates including Milner and Carter interviewed with the selection committee. David Parker also interviewed. Not sure who was the fourth.

Wayne Academy will be a threat in MAIS with the roster additions that are taking place.

He’s the current offensive coordinator. Been at NE Jones for 4-5 years now. I’m told that he’s been the actual head of the program the past few years. Played on NEJ state championship back in the 90s. I believe he had a short stint at Bay Springs as HC.

Latest is it’s Milner’s job to turn down.

I’m hearing money could potentially be a sticking point. Board meets Monday and no one has been offered this could drag on awhile longer.

Admin shift at Laurel is going to help there. It’s amazing it stayed afloat during the Watts era as Superintendent.
