TCU ended up losing last night. I tend to think they do not host now.

The margins are still really tight for those last couple of spots and it’s unclear how much weight will be put on conference tourneys. I agree that Ole Miss SHOULD host. But emphasis on the word should. If USM beats Coastal tomorrow, I absolutely agree that they SHOULD also host. Again, emphasis on the word should. Just last year you had two hosts in East Carolina and Arizona that were VERY shaky at best. State and Duke both thought they got hosed last year. Doesn’t mean it will happen again, but you just don’t know until the sites are announced. There are only 16 host sites but there are more than 16 host-worthy resumes, that’s just the fact of the matter. If you made me call it today, I think Ole Miss, Tennessee, and USM all host. Which means two of Georgia Tech, TCU, and UCLA won’t be. And included in those three teams is the ACC regular season champ, the Big 10 co-champ that is in the tourney finals tomorrow, and the team that has the best resume in the Big 12 and is leading in their tourney championship right now. It’s a really tough call for those last few spots.

I don’t know who ends up drawing the short straw but somebody is going to feel like they got robbed out of a host spots. The week started with 7-8 teams fighting for 2 or 3 spots and other than Bama, all of those teams keep winning.

Feel like State is a prime candidate for a 2 or 3 seed out west. Eugene or Corvallis, something like that.

Bama and Tennessee will be playing tomorrow, could have Florida vs Ole Miss too. Both games could be very important for hosting purposes with all four teams right along the host bubble.

There is a major log jam for the last 2 or 3 host spots. I don’t think it’s settled at all yet and conference tourneys will definitely matter. Maybe I’m wrong but State feels like more of a 2 seed than a 3 seed, IMO. Guess it doesn’t necessarily make a big difference. Geography dictates a lot of it anyway.

Barring a late miracle comeback by Oklahoma, State will be the 11 seed in Hoover playing A&M in the late game Tuesday. It looks like Ole Miss is the 7 seed and does not play until Wednesday, but that would likely be against Florida.

State sweeps Mizzou with another run rule. Wild that the one game in the series that wasn’t a run rule was the most lopsided.

Ole Miss and USM both making the hosting discussion very interesting at the last minute. Feels like what happens tomorrow and in conference tourneys will probably matter a lot for those last couple of spots. State essentially just playing for Hoover seeding tomorrow. They are going to fall somewhere in the 10 to 12 seed range. Will depend on if they win tomorrow and also how Florida and Oklahoma both do. Ideally you’d probably love to be the 10 seed opening with South Carolina if you had your pick, but they need to win and get some help for that to happen.

State takes the series, will go for the sweep tomorrow but they should have secured an NCAAT bid now. What a run these last few weeks. I know the schedule hasn’t been the toughest in the world but I don’t know many people that saw this team getting to 14 or 15 SEC wins this time two weeks ago.

Sure and like I said, bad teams win games occasionally . But A&M letting that team sweep them (in college station no less) blows my mind.

Was A&M’s whole team drunk last weekend? I can understand how a bad team can fool around a win a game, maybe even two. I have no explanation for how this Mizzou team possibly could have swept another SEC team.

State beat Mizzou 25-7. lol. I mean what do you even say about that one. Big win for Ole Miss over Auburn. If they can win one more then they should go to Hoover with a chance to host depending on how they do there.

I actually really like the OM pitching staff. They’ve got enough arms to win a Regional, if everybody is used properly. I don’t think the lineup is great, though. Seems very boom or bust. They are either getting a bunch of extra base hits or striking out. Don’t seem to manufacture runs particularly well.

Curious to see how State pitches it this weekend. Pico has not looked super sharp recently and they’ve had to throw him on short rest last week due to the Kentucky series not starting until Saturday. I would consider maybe holding him for Game 2 so that he can have normal rest heading into the postseason. It’s risky for an SEC series but I might even consider taking a Johnny Wholestaff approach on Thursday, throw Pico on Friday, and throw Siary on Saturday…. Then you have Ligon for Tuesday in Hoover.

USM is a really good team, the issue is the resume right now is a little weak, in spite of all the wins. Other than the early season series win at TCU, there isn’t much meat on the bone, unfortunately. And they’ve taken about half a dozen Q3 and Q4 losses. If they win 2 or sweep Troy then I think it becomes more interesting, though. Also might not hurt to do well in the conference tourney. I do wonder if they are being hurt by being the number two Sun Belt team this year, in terms conference standings and RPI. The league ended up being pretty bad this year after the Top 3 teams, and the committee may not want to reward the Sun Belt with multiple host sites. And it seems like right now Coastal is higher on the hosting pecking order. Shame that USM and Coastal don’t play in the regular season. Maybe it will happen in the conference tourney.

Honestly Mizzou sweeping A&M may be the best thing that could’ve happened for State. The pressure of being the first to lose to them is gone and the risk of State overlooking them is lower, most likely.

I mean Mizzou has been swept 8 times this year so definitely can’t rule it out. But they have also weirdly had State’s number in recent years. Think State is 5-7 against Mizzou since 2018. The biggest WTF being them winning two game in Starkville against the 2021 national title team.

That game had no business being close. But the series win is the most important thing. State should clinch an NCAAT bid with two wins at Mizzou next weekend. Mizzou, who is now the hottest team in the country suddenly with their two game winning streak lol. Ruining A&M’s season this weekend.

Yep, they’ve yo-yo’d the times around this weekend to avoid weather. We will see when this game actually gets played. May be a wet affair. For State, I think you’ve ultimately just gotta win 3 of these last 4 SEC games and you’re in. If you win tonight, need to take two from Mizzou. if you lose tonight, probably have to sweep Mizzou. Also, shout out to Mizzou, finally won an SEC game last night. Improved their record to 1-24. lol. Ole Miss needs to win this third game to stay alive for a host, IMO. Auburn is playing as well as anyone in the country right now and that will be a tough series next weekend, even in Oxford.
