Desoto Central hasn’t had the right person either and when they did he fooled around on Ashley Madison. Their current coach will get them there. The right guy with numbers and administrative support and watch out. Let me ask it this way…. If you took Desoto Central dropped them into 5A with their numbers do they have more than 7 wins and a playoff victory? Yep probably so… if numbers aren’t the end all then why can’t teams opt down? Numbers don’t matter…..

And if Louisville was a 2nd round/1st round out every year you think 80% of their fan base would accept that? Or would they firing staff and asking families to move?

If Louisville was in 7A they wouldn’t be in Hattiesburg.

So if I have 700 more kids there won’t be 10-15 more football players or athletes to develop?

Callaway with 705 students being competitive against Clinton with basically 1400? That school is twice the size. That would be the equivalent of throwing Callaway in 1A.

The whole Morgan family is a football family through and through. Brett Morgan at WP and then Josh and Rob at Warren Central. The Morgan family went 19-7 this year and all made it to at least the North Half.

I guess 7A South is in that category as well considering their champ in Brandon almost got beat by our dumpster fire 6A North runner up in Warren Central and did get beat by a Clinton team that Grenada literally could have hung 70 on.

I doubt Grenada would be where they are in 6 classifications because based on the cut line we would be in the higher class with Tupelo, Madison, Germantown, Starkville. It’s hard for us to compete as the smallest 6A. Although we beat Oxford, Clinton, Desoto Central those aren’t exactly powerhouses. Tupelo is on a whole different level.

Hattiesburg definitely has the better athletes. If Grenada can sustain drives and keep that offense on the sideline then I like our chances. Just looking down Hattiesburg schedule it looks to me like they have played a bunch of “spread” teams other than Picayune that dropped 30+ on them but I don’t keep up with ball in South MS much. I recall Hattiesburg having the same amount of hype in ‘17 and getting spanked by the physicality of West Point. Grenada is not ‘17 West Point but they are physical. Grenada is going to stay in 2 TE sets and run the football all night whether they have success or not.

West Point is in everyone’s head. Didn’t Holmes County blow a 21 pt lead last week? Haha. I know Michael Fair has done a great job at Grenada and he has been great with our program. We couldn’t get past the 2nd round for years and now we’re in the ship in back to back season with less talent than we had in any of the previous 5-10 years.

Nothing to argue about there. Yall have dominated us traditionally (Grenada has a 14-21 all time record vs WP). Even in 2002 when we dropped to 4A yall beat us 10-3 at Grenada in North Half. I think we can both agree that this years West Point team is down compared to some of those teams you’re talking about that beat our HC when at Lafayette. We can also agree that our HC didn’t have the talent at Lafayette County that he has at Grenada either. I would love to see WP vs Grenada every year. It would be a slug fest.

If there were 6 classes Grenada would be where they traditionally have been in division with Madison, Tupelo, Clinton, Starkville, etc. and are a competitive first round maybe second round team but nothing more. Grenada has roughly 290 students less than the next closest team based on enrollment which would be Starkville. Grenada struggles to compete in that division but still managed to make playoffs most years. Asking them to compete year after year there would be the same as throwing Poplarville in the current 6A class and expecting them to compete.

You threw it out there that West Point vs Hattiesburg is the “real” matchup. Then get your feelings hurt when someone doesn’t agree with that. My opinion on why 7 classifications helps in some cases (mainly larger classes) is because if there were still 6 classifications a school like Grenada that has 783 students would be in division with Tupelo that has 1542 students there closest enrollment competition would be Starkville with 1074 students.

West Point wouldn’t beat Grenada. Sorry Slick I know that sounds logical but Grenada would win that game 9 out of 10 times. I’ve seen both teams play. Grenada would win that game. All we have to go by would be common opponents. (Neshoba vs WP 21-7, Clarksdale vs WP 21-0 both were 4 qtr games/Neshoba vs Grenada 31-7 and should have been worse, Clarksdale vs Grenada 28-0 in a half during the Jamboree) Grenada would beat WP sorry Slick take that complaint down the road

Grenada will have to have a plan in the secondary. It’s no secret that Hattiesburg is uber talented at WR. If Hattiesburg is short handed up front on defense then that could be a game changer because Grenada is a really physical football team and can really run the football. Grenada’s back McCaleb Taylor is grossly under rated in the state of MS. He has rushed for just shy of 2,500 yards and if he catches a seam good luck. You aren’t catching him. If Hattiesburg is going to win the best thing they can do is get up early. I feel like if this game is tied or Grenada has a lead at half they will win because they will lean on Hattiesburg and wear them down. If however Grenada finds themselves playing from behind like they were against Oak Grove well that ain’t good….

I believe this game will be competitive from start to finish coming down to whether or not Grenada can defend the deep ball and if the referees allow them to play physical on the perimeter. Honestly I don’t Hattiesburg sustaining drives on Grenada (no one has). Now Grenada will give up splash plays in the pass game at times and that’s what is terrifying about this match up but if they eliminate that Hattiesburg will struggle to score. The Oak Grove game everyone is referring to was week 1 (it’s on YouTube) and that’s really the only common opponent. The score is not indicative of the contest. Grenada gave up a 3rd - 28 conversion for a TD on a screen and a punt return TD and still had the ball on the 8 yd line to tie the game at 31 all with about 3 minutes left in the game before throwing an INT. I see this game evenly matched coming down to whether or not Grenada can defend the down field pass. Vance won’t be sitting back there patting the ball because Grenadas front is really good and pass blocking or blocking at all isn’t high on the Hattiesburg list of priorities up front on offense.

That’s a heck of a lot of yards and the what makes it more impressive is everyone in the stadium knows whose getting the ball and they still can’t stop him.

Think he is right at it if not over now.
