That’s right. Best situation is for a good young player to have his parents and family work with his coaching staff, and then contact and coordinate with college coaches and summer camp recruiters. Worst thing is for them to listen to their fans and posse telling them how good they are.

Yeah, a lot of people are saying that Petal was the driving force pushing this new reclassification because they had fallen behind some of the other teams in that district. They are for sure right at the cutoff line for 6A and 7A.

One player can’t usually rescue a season. I’m wondering what happens to Petal in the reclassification next year. If they drop down a class, they might be able to win some games.

Once again, Clinton moves up the ranks of 6A, proving that they are improving since those early losses. They may well sweep their remaining schedule, leaving Brandon and Ocean Springs as the only undefeated teams, both in the south.

Everybody has an opinion. Mine, after seeing most of Hubbard’s games and quite a few of Irving, is that Hubbard is a winner, able to do so much more than any QB in the state. I’d rather not compare these two other than to say that I wish they both had been picked.

Looks like the young Warriors might have grown up some in the second half last night. Losing happens, but not quitting when you’re down is a mark of a well coached team.

Ocean Springs wins over Biloxi 48-28. Jumped out early, then took their foot off the pedal. Either the Greyhound defense isn’t as good as I thought, or Biloxi has some real talent on offense. Or both.

I was at an Ocean Springs 7th grade game where their kicker made all four of his PATs easily. It’s good that teams who have em will be able to give kickers a chance to improve. That includes learning to do kickoffs.

Normally, I’d think that d’Iberville would have the experienced players and veteran coaching that would allow them to turn the corner and win enough games to save their season, but this team is so young, with rookie players at almost every position that I don’t know. Add in a rookie head coach, who while a great guy and a good assistant, doesn’t have the experience to improve the team mid season. Losing to Biloxi hurts, as they will probably be fighting for the last playoff spot behind Ocean Springs, Gulfport, and one other. Next year, bet on the Warriors, but for now, it’s not good.

Probably better not to actually name my sources, but rest assured on the Will Smith diagnosis. I think it’s common knowledge on the Coulter kid with the turf toe, but you’d like to think that he could recover from that with rest, and it’s been three weeks now since he left the Hancock game and was stretching on the sidelines. I’d love to hear better news on the running back, but he went down very hard on the sideline, and left on a stretcher.

Sorry to say that starting running back Will Smith is out for the season with a broken leg. I’m hoping that he heals up and continues with his career since he’s just a sophomore. They have some options, including a ninth grade speed demon. Their best wide receiver, Coulter, has missed a couple of games, reportedly with a turf toe injury. They haven’t missed him yet, but will need him moving forward.

Your point that Biloxi has built this good record on a weak schedule is valid, though their one loss is to a good East Central team. They have played better every game, which brings them into this game on a hot streak. If O.S. can’t address their injuries, it might slow their offense, but I didn’t see any problems against d’Iberville. Again, this Greyhound defense is the best I’ve seen this year.

The Rebels played much tougher last year with skill position athletes and gritty defense. That’s not the case this year. The young QB doesn’t have anybody to throw to, and their defense won’t tackle. I’m not sure if they will win any games this year unless it’s Long Beach or PRC.

George Cty has had trouble stopping anybody, and Vancleave does play some defense and controls the ball with the running attack. I’ll seeing the Bulldogs by a couple of touchdowns, say 35-21.

An East Central win will probably require some turnovers by the Tide and a perfect game by EC. Both teams have great rushing attacks, but the difference is that Picayune defense playing better than years past. I’ve got to go with the home team.

The Indians of Biloxi are on a roll, winning four in a row. Undefeated in district. Ocean Springs is fighting an injury bug, but that defense is tight. Game’s in Biloxi on Thursday night, kicking off at an early 7pm. Been a while since Biloxi has played this well, so this game’s probably a toss up in their eyes. Who should I put my money on knowing that my wife’s an Indian and I shed blood for the Greyhounds?

Yeah, me too, but I’ve gotta stir up some competition for the Greyhounds. Winning this one makes me the king of my house for another year, so I’m pulling for O.S. pretty hard. They look better in some ways than last year with this defense.

Ocean Springs beats d’Iberville handily, and Biloxi gets by Harrison Central, setting up their cross the bay rivalry game next week with one loss between em. Game’s in Biloxi on Thursday night. Can the Indians pull the upset?

Before the season, when reports came out that the Warriors were only returning one starter as well as replacing their long time coach with a rookie coach, I was disappointed. As good as this program is at consistently producing great players and at out coaching opponents for the past decades, they just had to struggle. As an Ocean Springs ex player and fan, I always looked forward to seeing them, even if it meant a tough game. I’m afraid that won’t be the case this year. The Greyhound’s defense is legit, and the offense improving. A couple of injuries to offensive players that might return could decide the final score. This might be like last year’s blowout. I’ll say O.S. by 21.

Got to give those Long Beach kids a lot of credit. They haven’t won in a while, but keep playing hard. Here’s hoping that they find a way to win one this season.

“South d’Iberville”! Oh, the trash talk is on now!

Nobody wants George Cty to be a great program more than me, a Greyhound who played against them a hundred years ago. Last year’s version gave us everything we wanted in the first half, a 28 all tie. That might have been the game you lost your QB and inserted the ninth grader. Lots of talent there, but it’s all so young. I don’t worry about them having lost to Gulfport and us, but that Greene Cty game showed some real problems. Maybe the young players mature and improve by the end of the season, or they will be an experienced team next year. Hang in there, times can change quickly.

Good analysis. In reverse order, I really expected Ocean Springs to be tested by Clinton after the close game last year and them returning so much. Then, giving Brandon a good run gives me hope that O.S. might actually hang with Brandon and some of the big boys. Hounds playing much better defense this year means they win this one by 27. St. Martin has one of the best QB/WR combos in the state, but not a whole lot more. Gulfport barely beat a bad George Cty. Admirals win the second half and the game by 14. Goula beating a good Wayne Cty opened some eyes, but I’m not in love with their coaching. Red Rebs in a close one. Underachieving Biloxi has their best shot at beating North Biloxi in years. Eventually, the Warriors young talent will gel, and with O.S. on their schedule next week, they better not take the Indians lightly. Offense is the name of the game here. d’Iberville pulling away at the end, 35-28.

I would add that Harrison Central looked pretty good in giving Oak Grove a close game earlier, but haven’t really played well lately. Whichever one pulls out the win gives themselves a leg up on a playoff berth, if not the top spot. I’ll go on the record picking HC.
